My dog has bruising after vet visit for bladder stones. Is it normal?

Poor Wookie! To obtain a sample directly from the bladder a long fine needle is typically inserted through the abdominal wall and into the bladder. Another method of collection which is used less commonly is passing a catheter up the urethra and into the bladder. It certainly is possible that the sampling process caused some irritation to Wookie's bladder. I anticipate that this will pass fairly quickly. If Wookie has a urinary tract infection this would exacerbate the irritation. If you feel that Wookie is continuing to act strangely and not wanting to walk I would call your vet, they may want to see Wookie back to check everything is ok.

Hello, Its hard to give you definitive advise, because this could be nothing or something. Most likely, t could also be a simple insect bite or minor trauma that resolves on its own within a couple of days. However, I'd recommend monitoring that bruise for any changes and the rest of his skin and gums for new bruising or bleeding. Mysterious bruises can be a sign of blood disorders. If Charlie experiences any additional bruising, bleeding, or changes in appetite or behavior, I'd recommend taking him to the vet right away. I hope this helps. That bruising is not unusual following a cystotomy. Bruising can change over time and should start to dissipate soon. As long as she's feeling as well as can be expected post surgery and keeping quiet there shouldn't be anything to worry about.

Hi there. It's very common to see some scrotal bruising after a neuter surgery, especially in an adult dog that's fairly active. So as long as the dog is acting normal and not having any bleeding or discharge from the surgery site, this doesn't normally concern me. I would suggest restricting his exercise as much as possible for the next 7-10 days, and using an e-collar (plastic cone) to make sure that Milo isn't licking or chewing at the area. You can also hold a warm (not hot!) washcloth on the bruised area for 5 minutes a couple of times a day, if he will tolerate this, to help the bruising resolve more quickly. If the swelling seems to be getting worse instead of better, or if there is any bleeding or drainage, or if Milo starts to act like he doesn't feel well (not eating, excessively painful or lethargic, etc.), then I would recommend taking him back to the vet for a recheck visit.

Bruising that dramatically can happen after major trauma or with low platelet issues. It is also very concerning that tiny has been unable to urinate today. This can also be due to trauma (to the bladder), urinary blockages from stones, or possibly bad urinary tract infections. I would have her evaluated by a veterinarian as soon as possible. they will be able to check tiny for urinary issues and assess the bruise to see if blood work is warranted. I hope tiny is feeling better very soon.

He may have banged into his willy when he hit the ladder causing this bruising, or it could have been when he was in for his operation. It should settle with time, if it diesnt look swollen i would keep an eye on it and apply some arnica cream.

It does take time for Little One's bladder to heal from the bladder stones, so yes you can still see some blood in her urine. She can bleed on and off after bladder surgery, but I would still monitor her. If the bleeding gets worse or she starts having difficulty urinating, I would contact your vet immediately.
