Why does my dog have brown, tacky specks on his underbelly, is it oil?

You can try to use a medicated shampoo containing chlorhexidine twice weekly for 2 weeks. You may find that online or at your local pet store. I'm not quite sure what it is, either! It could be small amounts of dried blood in the pores, dirt, or debris from the bumps healing. I can see a few more pustules in the second picture, so it looks like Panda hasn't completely resolved the original issue. You can try a follicle flushing shampoo, like Dechra DermaBenSs Shampoo which contains benzoyl peroxide, but Panda may need oral antibiotics to clear up any infection present. Also, make sure she is on a good flea preventative as sometimes flea bites can present this way. If it isn't looking better in a couple days, Panda should definitely go to the vet for diagnosis.

Hello. These are comedones, essentially black heads, & they are commonly associated with dogs that have allergies. You can try bathing CJ in a benzoyl peroxide product ( shampoo or gel ) for its follicle flushing properties. Bathe weekly & make sure you leave the shampoo on for at least 10 minutes before rinsing. Judging from the picture you provided, I suspect that Baby may be dealing with a bacterial skin infection. I would recommend having a veterinarian examine Baby so that the most appropriate diagnostic and treatment recommendations can be made. Hello, sorry to hear about Butters. I think those are his elbows?? If so, this can be the early development of a callus, commonly seen in dogs as they age because of the pressure point at the skin of the elbow that is created especially when dogs are laying down. Alternatively, this could be comedones that can be seen with skin allergies or local skin irritation. If Butters does not seem to be bothered by them, is not licking them, scratching, or lozing hair then you can monitor the area for any of those signs. If he is showing signs, then he could be having allergies and you should consider having your veterinarian examine the areas to see if he needs to be further evaluated for allergies and determine if he needs to be treated for these. Hi and thanks for posting on Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! From the picture, these black dots on Pokey's abdomen appear to me like comedones or better known as 'black heads'. You can try using a dog friendly shampoo than is Benzoyl peroxide based such as Vetoquinol Benzoyl-Plus Shampoo for Dogs and Cats. You can get this online or through your veterinarian.
