My dog breathing heavily after dog attack. Is he stressed or injured?

Pet's info: Dog | Siberian Husky | Male | unneutered | 1 year old | 48 lbs

Hello, today Max had an unpleasant encounter. He met another dog but he didn't like him and before his owner react he tried to bite Max and threw him on the ground, he even cut a little bit one of his paws. Now it's been 3/4 hours past that and he is breathing like he feels really hot. It's on periods not all the times. Could that be caused by that stressful moment or I'm just reading into it too much? How does a stressed dog act like? Is there something I can do to make him feel better?

Hello, although he must have been very stressed during the episode, its unlikely that he continues to be stressed now. He could how ever be breathing like you are describing due to pain especially if Max was seriously injured during the encounter. I would recommend having him assessed to ensure he does not have any serious or painful injuries that would require medical management. Hope this helps and best of luck!!!

My dog was attacked, has a wound & breathing issues. What to do?

Poor Princess! Her irregular breathing is quite concerning. There is a chance that it is a result of pain from the attack, or could be an indication that the pit bull's tooth punctured her chest cavity. Bite wounds are typically worse under the surface of the skin than they appear externally. Princess needs to see a vet immediately for an exam, possible chest x-rays due to her irregular breathing, and antibiotics and pain medication. I hope that she is feeling better soon!

I would recommend taking Buddy to a veterinarian if we are still breathing heavy. They can get stressed and breath heavier from anxiety but my concern is that puppies this young can get sick and decline quickly. My dog breathes heavily after surgery. Should I go to emergency vet?

While drainage is normal post-surgery, heavy breathing, discomfort, or excessive pain, especially while already on medications, are not. If Bailey is in severe distress or is turning blue or pale, or is panting heavily, it would be best to bring her into emergency care ASAP. If she seems stable, but is in discomfort or painful, contacting your vet to bring her in is also a good idea.

My dog is panting, pacing, and breathing heavily. What should I do?

These are vague signs that could indicate several things like anxiety or pain. If there is something they could be making him anxious (rain, thunder, fireworks, new people, etc), then he will calm down afterwards. Just give him some extra attention. If there is nothing you can think that is making him anxious he could be in discomfort. I would have your vet do an exam to make sure he doesn't need any pain medication. I would not give net human pain meds as most of these are toxic to dogs. I hope this helps!
