My 9-year-old lab has a bleeding ear growth. Should it be removed?

The majority of these small, smooth growths are benign but can cause significant irritation to the eye, often becoming damaged from repeated scratching also. I would recommend surgical removal in order to prevent irritation and discomfort to the eye and more importantly before it becomes any larger and then requiring reconstructive surgery due to the size of the wound

I would recommend having Lily evaluated by the vet if this mass is getting bigger. any abnormal growth that is changing in size and shape should be assessed to make sure that it is not malignant. The most common tumors that we see along eyelid margins are tumors called Meibomian Gland tumors. It is generally recommended to remove them when they are small since it can often be done without general anesthesia. If they continue to grow, the surgery will be more invasive. Poor pup! No, I don't think that this looks likely to fall off on its own. In fact, since it has doubled in size and is also open and oozing now, I would consider it even more important to have it surgically removed. It would also be best to have this mass sent off for histopathology to find out if it is cancerous or not, especially given its recent rapid growth.

The most common reason that we see black crusting like that is when there is a small wound or mass that is bleeding a little and the blood is black when it dries. If it is a mass and was very small before and larger now, then it may need to be surgically removed. Since it has been there for a while, it would not be considered an emergency and the emergency clinic would likely recommend you have your regular vet evaluate it. However, if it is actively bleeding and you can't get it to stop, then it is certainly worth a trip to the emergency clinic. So, unless it is actively bleeding or bothering Zoey, I would contact your vet next week to have them examine it and decide on a treatment plan. We see a number of benign masses in young dogs and some require surgery to remove while some will resolve on their own. I would recommend that you have this little mass checked out by a vet, but I would not consider it an emergency. You could wait until Monday if your vet is not open. If Nala is scratching and causing it to bleed, you may need to have her wear an e-collar to prevent further damage. Poor guy. This lump appears to be a huge mass and possible polyp. You will need to get this tested by your vet and seriously consider surgical removal of the mass. If left there this mass has a good chance of causing chronic ear infection, pain, and also can continue to grow. It is best to get this removed, so please consult with your veterinarian to devise a good plan for Little Bit in the near future. I hope that LIttle bit's ear mass gets resolved soon.
