Why is my dog getting black spots on her skin? What can I do?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Hi. I want to know why my dog has a bunch of black spots on her skin. I read that it could be hyper pigmentation but i'm not so cure. It has gotten worse. A few months ago she had two big black spots on her skin and now she has 3 plus little ones all over her body. How can I make this stop? Is there medication she can take for this? Yes, I do bathe her once a week.

It’s difficult to know how to advise without a photo. Pets can get more dark pigment on their skin as they age. Other causes of pigmentation our inflammation, allergies, drama and minor infection’s. Try to get a photo and repost as this may lead to better advice. Thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach.
