What are these black spots & pimples on my dog's thigh after grooming?

It's a little odd that it is only on one side of the belly/leg. The rust color looks like saliva staining from your dog licking more frequently. The brown spots are likely clogged pores. I would work with your vet to treat itching (making sure he is on a good-quality flea preventative), food allergies, atopy, etc. You can also ask for a benzoyl peroxide dog shampoo to help flush the pores.

This can be caused by clogged pores or follicles, a skin infection, or for mites. It is important to have him looked at by a vet to determine exactly what is causing it. That can also prescribe medication, as well as a medicated shampoo, and treat the mites if he has any.

Those black spots look like comedones (aka: blackheads). I suggest you use this shampoo that contains benzoyl peroxide. Lather the affected areas (no need to do the whole dog), let it sit for 10-15 minutes and then rinse throughly. Do this every 2-3 days until they are gone. Hi and thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Sorry to hear about Max. The place he is chewing is very suspicious for a flea allergy. The brown staining of the hair coat is evidence that he is licking this spot. Proteins in the saliva will stain light color coated dogs. This could be something else, but this looks like classic Flea Allergy Dermatitis (FAD). FAD is an allergic reaction to flea bites that cause an inflammation/infection of the skin known as dermatitis. So looks like Max has become allergic to flea saliva and every time he gets bitten by a flea, the allergic cycle is activated. One flea bite a month is enough to keep this cycle going in highly allergic dogs unless something is done to intervene. I would advise a trip to your veterinarian. Give them a detailed history and let them perform a thorough physical exam. Once that is done, they will be able to formulate a treatment plan which could include effective flea/tick control, clip/clean of the area if needed, oral antibiotics, anti-itch medicines (antihistamines/steroids/other), topical medicines, and an E collar for starters. If other things are suspected, your vet may advise some diagnostic tests such as skin scrapes, fungal cultures, blood tests, etc. Effective and consistent flea control is definitely at the core of treating this problem if it's FAD. Thank you for submitting your question regarding Max. The skin lesion appears to be a mild infection. It is likely secondary to scratching from the fleas. If you are still finding flea dirt on him, then he likely still has fleas. Be sure to apply the Frontline exactly as direct. You will need to vacuum your home daily and wash all of his bedding frequently in hot water. You can bath him with a moisturizing shampoo and conditioner such as an oatmeal or fatty acid based formula to help to soothe the skin. If the lesion does not resolve though, he will need to see his veterinarian. I hope this information helps!

This does not look concerning to me. I suspect it is just normal pigmentation in the skin (like freckle-- only obvious quite large!). If he is licking at it a lot, or if the associated skin seems warm or inflamed, have your vet take a look. Again, overall I don't think you need to worry.
