My dog has a black lump growing on her head. Should I be worried?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Hi my dog has one raised lump, circle shape and her head. Just in front of her left ear. It was a small mark that is now larger and black in colour. Hey fur is still growing over it and her behaviour doesn't seem to have changed? She is eating drinking and using toliet as normal. Any idea what it could be ?,

This lump needs to be checked and analysed as there are many conditions and types of tumors that could look like that. take her to the vet, they will perform a fine needle aspiration on the growth and send it to the lab for analysis. when the result comes, the vet will advise what needs to be done according to the diagnosis.

Poor Sophie! Without seeing it in person, I cannot say for sure what it is. I am worried that it is changing and now has that black center. It could be infected or a tumor of some sort. I would have your vet take a look and see whether they think she needs oral meds or whether it needs to be surgically removed or if it is safe to just continue watching. I hope this helps!
