Why does my dog have bites and sores but no visible bugs?

Dingo's skin lesions look most suspicious for a bacterial skin infection. These infections often develop as a result of itching or licking from underlying allergies to fleas, food or the environment. Even though you haven't noticed Dingo itching herself, some dogs will hide from their owners and only scratch when they are alone. (I realize this sounds crazy - but it is quite common!) Make sure that Dingo is receiving a high quality flea and tick preventative (such as Nexgard, Bravecto or K9 Advantix II) regularly. She will need to go to her vet because these lesions typically require oral antibiotics for resolution. I hope that all goes well!

Poor Dewey! I'm so sorry to hear of his skin troubles. Dewey could be dealing with a number of potential problems. It is difficult to tell from your photo, but it is possible that Dewey is having a reaction to some sort of biting fly or similar. You could try an over the counter topical parasite preventative that targets biting flying insects and see if this helps. The lesions may have become infected, contributing to the scabbed appearance. Patchy hairloss and lesions like this can also indicate a problem called demodex-caused by tiny mites that live in the skin. These tiny bugs can only be treated with certain medications, and can cause ongoing skin problems if not addressed. I would recommend having Dewey checked over by your regular veterinarian-they will perform a thorough physical examination, and may recommend some skin tests such as a skin scrape, which can give better insight into the cause of Deweys problem. Your vet will then prescribe medications as appropriate-he may be prescribed antibiotics, anti-inflammatories, medicated shampoo. It looks like your dog is suffering from some sort of skin allergy or severe irritant. Because you say he is always chewing at himself I assume he is very itchy. I would suggest a trip to the vet to see if they can get him some relief. The welts (the bumps you are seeing) could be from the allergy, they could be from a skin infection, or from the dog chewing himself so much. Either way, getting him to stop chewing himself is the first step in healing the skin. Your vet will be able to help you determine the best course of action. Good luck!

I would recommend that Chance have these wounds checked out by a veterinarian. They could be caused by hotspots, allergies, bacterial skin infections, fleas, mites, among a few others. Since they are spread out over the body, Chance would probably benefit from oral prescription antibiotics and anti-inflammatories, in addition to treating the originating cause.

I can't tell from to photo, but are those 'seed ticks'? Other possible causes of itching/scratching/bites include mites or ant bites. If you cannot identify the cause, I recommend to have Bull examined by the veterinarian who may recommend a medication to treats the possible parasites and medications to help with any itching. It could be allergies, and although allergies occur more frequently when dogs are a little older, some younger dogs can be affected too. Since the lesions are itchy parasites (such as demodex, etc.) and infection ( bacterial, fungal) need to ruled out as well. Since your guy is uncomfortable the best plan is to see you vet to test for the above so that the correct treatment is prescribed. I am unsure of issues that are in Africa but in the united states if 2 dogs in the same house hold are itching I am usually concerned about fleas or skin mites. I would recommend looking for fleas and applying flea prevention every 30 days. you can try an over the counter anti histamine and anti itchy shampoo to calm the irritated skin. However, if you do not see fleas/patients are not improving I would recommend taking Snowy and your other dog to the vet for a good exam to make sure no other parasites are present. I hope that helps
