I recommend keeping a close eye on Buddy for vomiting, diarrhea, or loss of appetite. Pieces of bone or hair can cause intestinal blockages which result in similar signs. There isn't much that could be passed from the squirrel to your dog. Cases of rabies are almost unheard of in them. Bury the squirrel in the yard where your dog does not have access to it. If you live somewhere where you cannot bury it, bag it securely in two layers of plastic garbage bag and call a local vet clinic to see if they will take it, if not call Animal Control for them to pick it up to dispose of.

Since your dog is vaccinated against rabies (and if the vaccination is up to date) he is protected and will not contract rabies. It is also very unlikely that this squirrel had rabies. However, should your dog get a fever within the next 6 or 7 days , you should take him to the vet as squirrels can carry tularemia and the plague, which caan be transmitted to people and are potentially fatal diseases. They can be treated with antibiotics.

No, Roxy cannot get rabies from this, especially since she is up to date on her rabies vaccine. Now eating the remains can make her sick and give her a GI illness. Put on gloves, and dispose of the remains so she cannot eat it.

With a dog Ace's size, the mouse likely will not cause any problems such as an intestinal obstruction. It may cause vomiting / diarrhea, but he will likely be fine as the bones will dissolve in the stomach. If you were in an exam room setting, I would ask you questions such as “ is this the first bird that cookie has ever killed?” but I am going to go on the assumption that it is and will answer the question accordingly. Dogs are carnivores and their gastrointestinal tract can handle the eating of dead animals. With this in mind, however, she could get sick from eating a dead bird but it is not very common at all. The best advice I can give is to immediately take the bird away from her first. Then simply provide her with her regular food and plenty of water for the next 24 hours and simply wait and watch. If she continues to eat, drink, urinate, and defecate normally, then there should be no problem at all. But if she is acting sluggish, not eating or drinking, and has no interest in playing, within the next 24 hours, please take her to your veterinarian to make have a full physical examination performed.
