My dog ate plastic, vomiting, and struggling to poop. Is it a blockage?

As long as he is eating and drinking normally, I would not be concerned. If he begins to vomit or loses his appetite, then I would recommend having a veterinarian take a look at him and perform some diagnostic testing such as x-rays to help rule out a foreign body obstruction from the plastic. I would have phivo evaluated by a veterinarian. Vomiting and diarrhea with blood can be caused by viruses such as parvovirus (if he isn't vaccinated fully) or can be caused by irritation in the stomach and bowel from eating things he shouldn't or by certain foods that don't agree with him. A veterinarian will be able to make sure phivo is hydrated, give him medication for vomiting and diarrhea, and do tests such as fecal exam or x-rays to sort out what is going on. If you absolutely cannot get him in right away, I would fast him for 12 hours then feed a bland diet exclusively (boiled skinless chicken breast and white rice). I hope he is feeling better very soon !

Sorry we weren't able to get to your question sooner. If Princess is still not feeling well, that is concerning. My biggest worry would be the possibility of an intestinal obstruction if there was a piece of the bag in there that did not pass through. If thats the case, you're going to have to see a vet--can't fix that at home. It is possible, though, that the bag just caused a pretty significant gastroenteritis (inflammation of the GI tract). Call your vet and ask about giving famotidine. This is an acid reducer that may help if she's still vomiting. An obstruction is a very serious problem and typically requires surgery to relieve. So if he is not acting back to normal, he will need imaging by a veterinarian. Even if x-rays were taken initially, it is worth repeating them given the foreign object seen in the stool. I hope this information helps!

Wow, that was definitely stuck there for a while and it must have just came unstuck. This is quite unusual and means that there was a partial blockage the whole time. Complete blockages and sometimes partial blockage can cause life-threatening complications, but Rocko does not appear to be having those signs. If he is eating, drinking and defecating OK, then there is no need to rush him to the vet at this time. If he does become blocked, he would stop eating, stop defecating, vomit and would generally be appearing depressed. If you notice the combination of those signs happening, then he should go to the vet right away. I hope that helps and Rocko gets better soon.

If he eats it and keeps it down, you can offer him more in 2-3 hrs. However, if he refuses to eat, vomits or if he is not passing stools as normal, you should take him to your local vets for an appointment.

I would highly recommend you consider having her evaluated by a veterinarian as soon as possible for further assessment and treatment.
