My puppy is drooling a lot and ate Christmas tree needles. Is it serious?

The good news is that the tree is only mildly toxic Mowgli, but the needles will be an irritant to his stomach and GI tract. That would be causing the vomiting. I would try a home remedy to see if that helps with the vomiting. Withhold food for 12-24 hours, then feed a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) and white rice in small amounts several times a day for a couple of days. Then slowly add back in his normal diet. If the vomiting continues in the absence of food, he vomits the bland diet, develops diarrhea, stops drinking water, starts vomiting water, or becomes very lethargic, he will need to see a vet right away.

This eating all sorts on non-food items is called "pica". There has been same research into this and the results were that in many cases dogs who show this behavior have gastrointestinal problems. Actually the salivating would signify nausea, possibly a reaction to the pine needles, and the gagging as well. Take your dog off all food until tomorrow. Make sure he has fresh water available. If he is better tomorrow morning do the following: Put Ren on bland food for two days, such as boiled white rice and boiled white boneless chicken meat, fed in small quantities over several feeds and then transition back to regular food slowly over a few days. If this does not clear up the vomiting or if the vomiting increases, or if your dog gets lethargic, or is not better in the morning, he needs to see a veterinarian/PetER for an exam as there may be something more serious such as an infection going on.

Drooling can be a sign of nausea and this with a decreased activity level can be observed with many conditions such as gastroenteritis, dietary indiscretion, kidney disease, pancreatitis, among many other possibilities. Vomiting, drooling and inappetence can be observed with conditions such as gastroenteritis, pancreatitis, dietary indiscretion, gastrointestinal foreign body ingestion and obstruction, among other possibilities. For this reason, I highly recommend that you have Peanut evaluated by a veterinarian for further assessment and treatment as soon as possible as I am afraid she is likely becoming dehydrated. Hello, I'd recommend taking Jaxon to the veterinarian. Excessive drooling could be a sign of nausea and pain. They will want to x-ray his abdomen and see if the plastic he ate is lodged in his intestines, possibly requiring surgical removal. This would be the most common reason for a vaccinated puppy to be this nauseous. I hope this is helpful.

Hi there I'm so sorry to hear about Oliver's troubles. First, and most importantly, I always ask if a drooling dog has had a rabies vaccine and if they may have come in contact with a wild animal or another dog or cat with unknown vaccine history. If any of the above is the case, even though the chances are low, I would still take precautions and make sure to avoid contact with the saliva or bodily fluids until Oliver sees his veterinarian. If he has had his rabies vaccine, or there is little to no chance that he could have come in contact with another infected animal, then I would be a little less cautious, but still take him in to see his veterinarian. He could be nauseous, which is a very common cause of nausea. This could be because he ate something he shouldn't have and it is bothering his stomach, or he had a recent change in diet, or a new treat introduced. Sometimes rawhide type chews can break off into pieces and get stuck in the stomach causing intermittent nausea. Puppies can also sometimes eat things like pieces of toy, blanket, or even rocks! Another reason a puppy or dog may drool is due to something going on with the teeth - fracture or infection, for example. A piece of foreign material, like a foxtail awn, if they are common in your area, can cause excessively drooling if they become lodged in the oral cavity as well. The above are some reasons for drooling, but there are many more. To be safe, since Oliver is so young, I would make an appointment with his veterinarian to have him checked. They can make sure he doesn't need any tests to be run, like Xrays or blood work, and they can also send home some medications to make him feel better, should it be something like an upset tummy. You should have Pete examined by your veterinarian. There may be periodontal disease, infection or foreign body causing the symptoms. Sedation may be required to examine him fully. If it is periodontal disease, a complete dental cleaning may be indicated. This will require anesthesia and Pete may need extractions.
