My dog ate borax. What are the signs of poisoning and what to do?

Generally, the biggest issue that we may see with ingestion of borax is stomach upset and vomiting - so it's very possible that you may see this. In large amounts, borax can cause kidney failure in dogs, but this is uncommon and usually the result of long-term exposures rather than a single ingestion. If you're concerned, you can always opt to take Rocky to your nearest emergency vet for supportive care to help prevent any problems.

Had should be okay, you may notice he starts to salivate quite a bit, but it doesnt sound like he ate too much. Keep an eye for signs of an upset tummy and if he seems very poorly take him to the vet.

Borax has a wide margin of safety unless a large amount is ingested, and with the amount that Roxie ate and the fact that she is 60 pounds in weight, she should not suffer any ill effects from it. At most, you may see some stomach upset. If you do, withhold food for 12-24 hours, then feed her a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) and white rice in small amounts several times a day for a couple of days. Then slowly add beck in her normal diet.

Borax is toxic to cats, and while it it low on the toxicity scale, if Sweet drank some borax, it's best that she is seen by a vet now. Symptoms of borax toxicity include diarrhea and vomiting to muscle weakness and seizures, and are usually seen shortly after ingestion. I would take Sweet into an ER vet or find vet on call to see her now.

Vomiting, diarrhea, increased salivation, tremors, seizures, twitching are the most common signs if an animal eats a pesticide. Most pesticides sprayed on the lawn are not the cause of most cases of vomiting and diarrhea though they tend to always get blamed. If Bella drank from the bottle or ate a lot of the plant with the chemical then the her signs could be from the weed killer. I am glad she is better and if she is eating, drinking and acting fine hopefully all is good now! I hope this helps!

The vomiting is expected, but I'm surprised by the drop of blood, because this is not expected with Boric acid ingestion. It actually may be unrelated and is more likely due to some other issue causing inflammation in the rectum or anus. Boric acid does not cause any other toxicity, besides gastrointestinal irritation (vomiting and diarrhea), so I wouldn't expect him to have worsening signs of illness. I would recommend taking him to the vet if he has any of the following: 1) Vomiting for more than 24 hours 2) Very watery diarrhea 3) Starts acting very depressed 4) Stops eating or drinking for longer than 24 hours. 5) Diarrhea lasts longer than three days. 6) There continues to be blood in the stool after 24 hours. Unfortunately, there is nothing else that can be done at home for this besides ensuring he has plenty of water. I hope that helps and Mr. B gets better soon.
