My dog ate a bobby pin. Should I feed her more food or rice now?

Bulky foods like dry dog food, rice, or white bread can sometimes help surround an ingested foreign body and help with passage, but it can vary and is not a guarantee to protect against damage or perforation.

I am sorry to hear about your puppy. It is possible the puppy may pass this object. You can try giving a piece or two of whole wheat bread torn into pieces to help aid in its passing and will need to observe him for signs of obstruction for the next few days until the bobby pin is passed. Signs of obstruction include vomiting, decreased appetite, lethargy, and painful abdomen. If this happens you must seek veterinary care as soon as possible. If the bobby pin was just swallowed a veterinary center with an endoscope may be able to remove the bobby pin without doing surgery if that is an option for you.

This certainly could pose a risk for causing problems as it passes through the GI tract such as a puncture. If you are unable to get to a veterinarian, then I would recommend feeding bulky food items such as canned pumpkin and bread and see if this helps create a layer around the safety pin as it passes through the GI tract. Of course, my recommendation is to still get Chiku in to be seen by a veterinarian as soon as possible. I would recommend endoscopic removal of the safety pin while it is in the stomach. It is not a cheap procedure but is cheaper than surgery and is non-invasive. I hope this helps guide you in the right direction. Hello. I would keep a watch on her for the next 72 hours, after which if all seems OK, then she will be fine. If she seems pretty normal & hungry, then I would feed her 1/2 of her normal dinner, wait an hour & feed the rest. The bones will hopefully just be digested & if there are not too much of the fatty fried parts, then she should be fine, but it is always best to be a little cautious & proactive. Instead, you should monitor Riku at home for the next 24-48hrs for symptoms of vomiting, lack of appetite, lethargy difficulties to defecate. If you see any of them, you should take him to your local vets for an appointment as these symptoms would suggest gastrointestinal obstruction. However, most likely the little bones will be digested rapidly in the stomach and Riku will not show any worrying symptoms at all.

If Jayden is vomiting, not eating, acting unwell, has a sore belly, or is not himself, then get him to the vet for some x-rays. In the meantime, feed a bland diet of boiled/boneless/skinless chicken breast and boiled rice in small frequent meals. Best of luck with Jayden!

Just monitor her over the next 24-48 hours for any vomiting, lethargy, not eating. If you notice any of those then take her to your vet for an exam.
