Why is my Frenchie anxious, digging, and panting after seeing a seizure?

Thanks for using PetCoach. Shaking and panting can be signs of anxiety or possibly pain. It may be a storm or change in atmospheric pressure triggered her anxiety. These types of behaviors could be caused by pain, anxiety, internal medical issues, cognitive dysfunction from old age, seizures, etc. Without seeing a vet, it is hard to tell what could be going on and I can't really make any specific recommendations. Be available to comfort him. You can also try doggie pheromones like Comfort Zone or Adaptil.

Ruling out an underlying health issue such as pain or illness is always a good first step when your pet experiences a sudden behavior change. As seven is the start of the senior years, it is possible there is some pain from laying in the bed, or arthritis causing problems. if Milou checks out health, trying to find if there is a pattern to the "attacks" may be helpful- does it happen the same time every night? Same spot? Same triggers? Is the neighbor arriving home in a noisy car at that time, etc? This may help you figure out what is triggering it so you can make some adjustments- IE moving the bed somewhere quieter, making sure your dog is fast asleep prior to that time, getting out excess energy before bed, feeding a treat to keep the stomach from becoming too empty and causing growling/discomfort, etc. If you can't seem to find any pattern at all, taking a video of the even to bring to your vet or a local trainer may be helpful in better identifying what is going on, and finding a solution.

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Despite how alarming this may seem, it is normal in some small breed very excitable dogs. I see it in some patients that come to the Vet. I do think that episodes lasting all day is severe though and I would discuss medications for you to give her to help calm her on those very bad days. I am sure it isn't fun to be that anxious all the time. Also trying relaxation techniques, going for basic training can help to focus her attention during these events. Having her sit or lay down or go to her bed to lay down would help to calm her. All that can be taught with a trainer. Since Belle seems to be severely affected I would put her on antianxiety medications. I hope this helps and I wish you and Belle the best!

Dogs can suffer from a variety of anxiety disorders and other mental conditions including obsessive compulsive disorder. Sometimes there's a known cause like not enough socialization, not a good energy outlet or being raised in a stressful situation. Sometimes there's a trauma which can cause the anxiety. But sometimes there's nothing obvious and the though is that maybe there's a genetic component. Your best option is to work with a professional behaviorist who can help to identify the disorder and teach you methods to condition Ted. I don't see anything wrong in the pictures, but I would have to examine him in-person to really be able to assess him. Sudden itchiness is usually due to a contact allergy, or possibly due to an environmental allergy. I would check to see if he had contact to any aerosol sprays, disinfectants, perfumes, bathing products, fiberglass, or other new bedding, etc. Without seeing the behavior and knowing the full history, it's difficult to know for sure that this is itching behavior. However, you can give him a bath with just cool water for 15 minutes and see if that helps. If you are not able to determine the cause of this, or the bath is not helping, then I'd recommend a visit to the vet, or possibly an online consult with one of our Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach experts. Sounds like Kaden has a pretty significant anxiety disorder. I suggest you speak to your vet about what treatments are available. Often times older dogs will change and start exhibiting behavior like this when their eyesight and/or hearing starts to get poor. That may be the problem. I don't know.
