Why is my dog always acting like they're starving after eating enough?

I believe the disorder you are referencing in people is Prader–Willi syndrome, which is a genetic disorder where a person will constantly feel hungry no matter how much they eat. There are also other effects of the disease on that person such as behavioral problems and intellectual disabilities. As far as I'm aware, it does not occur in dogs. It's good that Fionna has been checked for worms, but there are other medical causes that can lead a dog to always be hungry such as diabetes, conditions causing malabsorption of nutrients, and Cushing's disease. I recommend having Fionna seen by a vet again this week for further tests such as a geriatric blood panel and urinalysis. Depending on the results of those tests, the vets may want to do further testing to definitively diagnose if she does have a medical condition causing her constant hunger. Some medications, such as steroids used to treat pain and inflammation, may cause an increase in appetite as well as an increase in thirst/urination. If this was what was given to Ozzy, that could be the case. If you're unsure what was given, or are concerned the medication is making his symptoms worse, talking to your vet is best to see if any additional treatment is needed.

I would recommend taking your dog to the vet for an exam, as there are definitely some medical conditions that can cause a dramatic increase in appetite like this. Some possibilities would include Cushing's disease, diabetes, a thyroid tumor, or a problem with absorbing nutrients from the GI tract. Excessive water intake can be seen with conditions such as urinary tract infections, and metabolic conditions such as Cushing's disease to name a few. Given that Chico is also showing signs of being hungry, it is possible that he has something called Cushing's disease which is a metabolic condition which at times requires treatment. Do you think her body weight is appropriate? If she is underweight, she can eat more. If she is normal, you may consider putting her food in treat or puzzle toys so that it takes her longer to eat. She may also be looking for attention. Help her get in more play time or do obedience training to give her mind something to do. If she still seems really hungry, you can try feeding a weight loss food at higher amounts - they usually have more fiber so that it fills the dog up without adding extra calories.

This is obviously very abnormal, unfortunately this symptom is very general and could be caused by many diseases including intestinal worms, cancer, IBD, pancreatitis, kidney failure and many more. i recommend taking her ot the vet ASAP in order to get it checked and treated.

Unfortunately that answer will depend on a few factors. 4 cups of food a day sounds like a reasonable amount for a young 63 pound dog that is active. My 70 pound dog eats about 3 cups a day and is completely convinced that he is starving every day, but his weight is perfect. It just depends on the dog. So, my first recommendation is to evaluate Cooper's Body Condition Score (BCS). If you have any questions about Cooper's weight or how to determine his BCS, then I would certainly consult his veterinarian. Otherwise, if his BCS is normal and he appears to be acting normally otherwise, it might just be the Cooper thinks he should be eating more food than his body actually needs to maintain his weight.
