What's causing my dachshund puppy's light chest hair & nose spot?

You can see this occur in some dogs and it can be completely normal but, just like anything, it can be pathologic as well. Monitor the skin very closely for redness, itching, progression of hairloss or scabbing. If these signs are seen it is more likely pathologic and he should be examined by his veterinarian. It's tough to say exactly what's causing Pablo's patch of hair loss from a picture alone. I agree that I don't see any redness, scaling or signs of inflammation in the picture. I am sorry to hear about Michief. It is possible he could have vitiligo, which causes a loss of pigmentation of the skin/fur in dogs. Sometimes this can appear as a small patch, and sometimes can be over larger areas. Dachshunds are a breed we see with this condition. It can sometimes result from a stressful event, and occasionally due to an autoimmune condition. From the photos it appears that the lesion is affecting both the mucosa of his nose and also his skin. This could be some sort of deep bacterial infection or perhaps something like ringworm (which humans can get). It is also very concerning however for an autoimmune condition. I recommend to have a Bosco visit his veterinarian with in the next day for an exam. The doctor may try treatment or testing for an infection. The doctor may also recommend a biopsy. Hmmm, it sure does make him look cute, though! This is a very interesting pattern of hair growth. It is quite possible it is just how his hair grows! Possible causes for this (although not very common in puppies) include hypothyroidism, endocrine or hormonal disorders, or color dilution alopecia since it appears to be no hair growth in the blue areas. I recommend that your vet test his different hormone and endocrine levels to see if there is a treatable cause. If it is alopecia, you can try supplements (discuss an appropriate dose of melatonin with your vet) but there is no cure. For the sores and bumps, common causes include fleas, mange, infections (bacterial or yeast), ringworm, allergies, among others. I would definitely recommend having it sampled in the vet office. It's possible that it's just a wound, or it could be an infection, cancer, or even something like an immune mediated disease. What a cute puppy! My suspicion is that the color changes are due to what is called a "merle" gene in this puppy, which can cause color dilution- or white patches on the fur and nose. In most cases it is not a concern but it has been associated with congenital deafness in some dogs. The deafness usually is apparent by a few weeks of age. You can ask the breeder for an examination by a vet to ensure that isn't an issue with this puppy before purchasing her.
