Is coconut oil healthy for my dog's treats despite saturated fat?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier | Female | unspayed | 6 months and 16 days old

I am trying to make healthy treats for my dog. I keep seeing coconut oil as an ingredient. Is this really healthy for a dog to eat since it is so high in saturated fat? Please advise.

Great question! You are correct that too much saturated fat is unhealthy for dogs, and it's awesome you are checking this out before giving it to Sadie. As long as it's a small amount, say a teaspoon to a tablespoon per serving, then it should be fine to give to her :-)
