Should I get a cat with my jealous Border Collies? Intro tips?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

i have 2 male border collies and wanted to know if it would be a good idea to adopt a cat and how to introduce the animals. The oldest dog is a 1 year old who is very protective of his territory and tends to get jealous if he is not the centre of attention and therefore tends to be a bit aggressive. He is calm when petted but does get a bit excited when there are loud noises. My other dog is 10 months old, he has a sweet soul but is scared at first when introduced to dogs and some new people.

Border collies tend to have a high predatory drive, but some of them will do well with cats. Unfortunately there isn’t really a way to know this without trying. I would be very guarded an make sure they are not left alone together for quite a while until you know how they will react to the cat. Best of luck and I hope things go well!
