Are Canine Carry Outs dog treats safe for my dog's training sessions?

Garlic and onions both have the potential to be toxic, but amount and size of your animal contribute greatly to the toxicity level. The ASPCA poison control is a great resource for toxic chemicals, plants and foods if you would like more information. My suspicion is the dog treats have a very small amount of garlic and it is probably for flavor. I still find it interesting that it would contain it at all and if you were nervous about it I simply would not administer any more of the treats. Some of my favorite treats that I recommend for pet owners are things like dehydrated chicken or turke. Just simple strips of meat that don't contain any preservatives or any additional ingredients. I also like carrots and green beans depending on what your dog is willing to eat. Like with most pet food I try to encourage people to find things with simple, clean ingredients. Just like with our groceries, there are a lot of choices out there and not all are as healthy as the manufacturer would like us to believe.

Think of it this way - treats are like cookies - they taste good and may have some nutritional value, but overall are empty calories. Dog treats are similar. You can use smaller treats, or training treats to be able to give her a treat more frequently, but no more than 10% (or less) of her diet needs to be treats. A few general recommendations: stick with well known brands with a good reputation. Look for products made in the USA. Kibble works great for treats and I use Purina Pro Plan chicken or lamb and rice. Dry biscuit type treats usually have less calories and salt. The jerky or moist type treats are fine in moderation (they have more calories and salt usually). Lastly, many dogs really like dehydrated chicken livers and chicken jerky. Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! No it isn't bad. too many treats can cause obesity so using smaller pieces helps prevent too many calories as treats. I would just have them eat them slower bu holding the piece in between your fingers for him to nibble and lick then release it. Hopefully slowing it down will prevent gagging from swallowing the treats too quickly. I hope this helps!

Hello and thank you for your post on Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! I like to use Tricky Trainers because they are grain free and are only 4kcal/treat. They also smell amazing to dogs and seem to be quite tasty to them. You can purchase these at any major pet supplies store. I hope this helps!

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! I actually think that is way too many treats. Treats should be used as reward or training. Those treats have a lot of calories in them and with 3 small dogs that’s an excess of calories. I would relate that to a human eating a doughnut. Three humans should not eat 40 doughnuts daily. I suspect your dogs are only picking at their dry food because they are eating mainly treats as their diet. Treats also do not have the right vitamins and minerals to promote proper bodily functions. I would recommend 1 snack per dog per day. If you would like for them to find food while you are at work, I would use their regular dog kibble. I hope this helps. Kisses to your pups!

The best training treats are ones that your dog really loves and that can be broken into very small treats. This is especially important with a small dog like Bella. I have used and really like Wellness Soft Puppy Bites and Fruitables.
