Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Goldendoodle | Female | unspayed | 8 lbs

Breeder took puppies for check up. 3 of the 8 week puppies tested positive for giardia. Mine was 6 weeks and negative. She has treated both litters with flagyl. 7 days. Then has re check after 5 days. This wed. My pup will be 8 weeks and ready to come home wed. But 2nd fecal exam will not be back till Friday. question- should I bring pup home wed. To continue treatment if tests positive on Friday ? Breeder said moving may stress her. But I feel I should remove her from infected pups.

Typically giardia is nothing fatal as long as it is treated. A typical treatment is flagyl for 7-10days. I do not see a problem with you bringing home the puppy as long as you continue with the treatment. Also pick up all poop in yard and throw away to prevent re contamination.
