When should a 5-month-old Boston Terrier puppy get its rabies shot?

No, Princess should not be dangerous to anyone if she bites or licks them - it's very normal for puppies to do this :) Rabies is extremely rare in pet dogs, and would be virtually unheard-of in a puppy this age - it can only be transmitted through the bite of an infected wild animal, so it's unlikely that she would have had any possibility of exposure at the age of two months. Dogs can get their rabies vaccine anytime after 12 weeks of age. So she isn't quite old enough yet, but your veterinarian can vaccinate her in another month or so. I do not recommend giving 5 in 1 vaccines on your own, because in my experience, vaccines purchased over the counter and given by owners are often not effective. It's much better to have your veterinarian give the vaccine, to make sure it's guaranteed to work.

If you feel like your puppy is weaker than her should be at this age then I recommend taking him to the veterinarian to be examined. He may have intestinal parasites (very common in young puppies) or could have something more serious like parvovivrus. You should also make sure he is fully vaccinated. Your veterinarian can give you a schedule of when he needs what vaccines. He should also be vaccinated for rabies at 12-16 weeks of age. Your puppy should be eating a large breed puppy food. Bordetella vaccine can be given to puppies from 8 weeks of age. The rabies vaccine will have to be repeated at 12 to 16 weeks (depending on your state's law) as maternal antibodies will destroy it and your puppy will not develop an immunity against rabies at this age. It is unlikely that your puppy will have any detrimental effect from those vaccines given at the age of 8 weeks. Whether the bordetella vaccine needs to be given again will depend on the type and brand of the vaccine. I suggest you follow the advice of your veterinarian. Accidents like this can happen, and it is likely that the tech who filled out your initial admission made a mistake when entering the information in the computer. This does not mean your vet is a bad vet.

In general, we booster DHPP 1 year after the puppy series ends (so that would be now since it ended on 6/7/17), then DHPP is generally boostered every 3 years. Rabies vaccination is again boostered 1 year after it is given the first time, then every 3 years after that (depending your local regulations). That partially depends on the state laws and where you live. Generally most vets will give the vaccine if the expiration date is within 6 weeks. If live in a state that allows 3 year rabies vaccines and you pet has already had one and is due for another 3 year vaccine, the vet may give that 6 months before the actual due date if it is more convenient for the owner. No, I would not worry. Typically the first rabies vaccine isn't given until the puppy is 12 weeks of age. I would take Grey back into the vet when he is 12 weeks old to get his first rabies vaccine (he will need a booster of it four weeks after the first). I hope this helps :-)

If at 5 months, this will be the first time he will be receiving vaccines, then I would recommend he receive his rabies vaccine and distemper-hepatitis-parvovirus vaccine as well as bordetella if he will be around other dogs or kenneled. He will need a booster of the distemper and bordetella in 3-4 weeks.
