What's the best age to neuter my male dog for healthy growth?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Shiba Inu | Male | unneutered | 5 months and 10 days old | 21 lbs

I have 5 month old male red Shiba Inu. When would neutering be recommended? Does he need the testerone to fully develop (muscles, bone, etc)?

When Boomer is about 12-14 months old it will be safe to get him neutered.
Yes, it is better to wait with castration until he is fully grown. There is some scientific evidence that too early castration predisposes to bone maldevelopment and fractures.
