Best age to neuter my mini dachshund with undescended testicle?

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Cryptorchism is the term used to describe if one or both testicles are not descended in the scrotum. It is a genetic condition. The breeder shouldn't continue to breed this line. It will be fine to wait to neuter Dexter until he is 1 to 1 1/2 years old. I wouldn't wait much longer. Neutering is safe and is very highly recommended. Simba likely is cryptorchid, which means one testicle is retained in the body and hasn't descended. Leaving it leads to a higher incidence of cancer and testicular torsion later in later. You can wait until he is a year old to neuter him.

Hello. It is too early to make any judgments as to if & when Diesel's testicles may drop. You certainly can wait until he is 6 months to a year of age, but if nothing is seen or felt by this time, he probably never will drop them. This can be a trait that is passed on to future puppies, so you definitely will not want to breed him. He should also be neutered in this case because the retained testicles are maintained at a much higher temperature in the body, & this can result in the testicular tissue turning cancerous. They should be both down by birth or by 4 months. It just means the vet will have to search for the retained testicle when he gets neutered. He should be neutered because it is a congenital or genetic disease and the testicle can become cancerous over time. I hope this helps!

Three is a perfectly fine at to neuter a dog! Elliot isn't a senior dog, and as long as he is healthy, the risks are minimal, just the usual ones for any surgery such as infection and excessive bleeding. Have him seen by a vet to get him neutered. I hope this helps.

Marshal is likely a cryptorchid which means he still has a testicle retained in his abdomen. He should absolutely be neutered as the retained testicle makes Marshal at high risk for a certain type of cancer called a Sertoli cell tumor. I'd recommend having Marshal neutered right away. The veterinarian will need to remove both the testicle in the scrotum and the one that is retained in the abdomen.
