Is it normal for my 9-month-old Malamute to be so calm and sleepy?

Hello. Just like in people, personalities differ in pets, as well. While we can generalize about specific breeds of dogs, this just does not always prove true. Sometimes you can guess at a dog's general adult behavior by how they act as a puppy & maybe you are just really intuitive at picking out calm dogs, but as long as the health of the dog or puppy is normal, I would just be happy that your pup is not a maniac. At 3years of age he would generally expected to be more active but every dogs character is different and some are very placid. If his behavior has changed over the last 3 months I strongly recommend a full health check by your vet to rule out medical or painful conditions which may be reducing his mobility

It is normal for dogs energy to levels to decrease slightly as they age. You should consider if Calhoun is still interested in the same activities, or if he no longer plays or gets excited for walks, for example. I find Dalmatians to have a lot of energy in general so her behavior is worrisome. It is worth having her evaluated by her veterinarian to ensure that she is not suffering a medical problem. Although puppies do sleep often during the day they should be very lively in between naps and the naps should be shorter as they get to 4-5months old. I would be concerned this is not a habit but that your puppy is acutally unwell - this is not normal puppy behavior. Please have him assessed by your vet as soon as possible to determine any underlying medical causes

It also takes some time for them to get used to their new environment. I would give him more time for him to come along especially since he is otherwise doing so well. If at any point he develops symptoms of illness such as vomiting, diarrhea or inappetence, have him evaluated by a veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. It can be normal for a puppy this age to go through stages where they are sleeping more during the day, however if it seems extreme or if you have noticed any other changes in appetite, overall attitude, or elimination habits you may want to have Mack examined by your veterinarian.
