Is tea tree oil safe for pets and does it kill fleas or ticks?

I would not recommend coconut oil. This will close the pores of the skin and cause a skin infection. I recommend an over the counter aloe and oatmeal shame. This is going to cause a nice shinny coat. I do understand your diet preference but cats do eat protein in the wild and is needed for there proper growth. However if you have Holly on a proper diet she does not need any type of supplements the normal food is enough. For any type of bug- maybe fleas - I would recommend a topical flea prevention every 30 days. Typically the baths only wash off the fleas but does not prevent them from coming back.

Giving them a bath is the best thing to strip their coats and skin if the oil. Make sure you used dawn dish soap as this cuts grease and oil based products very well. Since little got absorbed due to the timely baths, they are unlikely to show any ill effects. Monitor for any vomiting or shaking.

HI, thanks for using Petcoach! Poor Bailey! Fleas can really wreak havoc on the skin. From the scratching animals can get secondary bacterial and yeast infections. A lot of the time they need steroids or apoquel and antibiotics and/or antifungals to get over the hump. Taking her to your Vet for medications will allow her to heal and feel better faster. Since she is so allergic to fleas I recommend aggressive year round flea medications, the oral formulations (Nexgard, Bravecto and Simparica) are great as are the Seresto collars which last 8 months and repel fleas. With that being said, I would avoid the tea tree oil and use a medicated shampoo followed by a conditioner if you do not want to take her to the Vet. Let the shampoo sit on her skin for 10 mins before rinsing. I provided links to a shampoo and conditioner I like. My take is that all essential oils are potentially very dangerous for cats so i would never take the chance. in addition and from experience, these products do not work to protect dogs from ticks and fleas so i strongly doubt they would work on cats.

I would be concerned the baking soda would dry the skin out and cause irritation. Unfortunately a homemade shampoo like this is unlikely to kill fleas. It may slow them down while they are wet and allow you to pick them off, but it will not kill them. There is not an effective "natural" flea killing product unfortunately, as fleas are very hardy. A shampoo will also only be effective at killing the fleas on your pet at that moment and will not prevent more fleas from the environment from infesting your pet. I would recommend talking to your vet about the flea prevention options available at their office. There are a variety of very effective products now available including topical products like Advantage, oral products like Nexgard and Bravecto, and some effective long lasting collars such as the Seresto collar. If the product is safe for pets, it will be indicated on the labeling. If it is not labeled as safe for pets, don't use it. Remember that pets lick themselves so you can only use products that are labeled as safe for pets. I hope this helps and please feel free to post any additional questions.

Ticks and mosquitoes will likely laugh at coconut oil and lavender oil in your puppy's fir. one problem with putting these oils into your puppy's fur is that is plugs up the skin's pores which prevents it from breathing and can cause skin issues. It is also not healthy if your puppy licks off any of those oils. I suggest you get Frontline Spray instead and spray your dog with that. It is safe in puppies.
