Stepped on my declawed cat's paw, it bled. Should I call the vet?

If the bleeding is not stopping you will need to take your cat to a Pet ER to have the bleeding stopped , the wounds glued and possibly the paw bandaged. Your cat will need pain medicine and antibiotics to keep the wounds from getting infected. Are you really in the UK? If so you need to take your cat to an out of hours vet or emergency service,

Mild oozing can be seen post declaw, but if it continues to bleed for more than a few hours, its best to contact your vet to inform them of what is going on. That white stuff there in the photo looks like skin glue, which is commonly applied to the incision site. If it currently bleeding you can use some corn starch to help slow the bleeding. Also if you are able to place a light bandage on it to prevent him from licking it tonight that would be good. You can also use a cone collar which you can find at your local pet store if it is still open. I would take him to your vet first thing in the morning for an exam. He may need to have it cleaned, medicated and professionally wrapped. Your vet will also be able to provide antibiotics and pain meds if need. If it is profusely bleeding then I would take him to your local emergency clinic for attention tonight. I hope this helps!

I am sorry to hear about Belle! I would recommend bringing her into the vet, as she is obviously painful. She could have torn a claw but there could be a remnant of the claw remaining that needs removal as this can cause pain if it is hanging on. We also worry about infection in these cases, so it is best to have your vet check her out so we can make sure she is as comfortable as can be!

Poor Kitty. Try to apply gentle pressure to stop the bleeding. Put an Ecollar on her to keep her from licking it, as that can make it worse. You can make one at home or buy one at a pet store. Having her seen by a vet tomorrow is a good idea.

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Ouch! Poor Marcel! I would take Marcel to the Vet. If he is otherwise ok, you can wait until the Vet opens. He needs that nail trimmed all the way back, otherwise it is a source of pain. If the toe is swollen the Vet may also provide antibiotics and pain medications for a few days. If he is licking the paw, which is common, try to get an E-collar to stop the licking. He may have to continue to wear it until the tow swelling has improved. Ultimately Marcel will be fine! It's hard to tell from the pictures exactly where the wound is and if it involves the claw itself. I would soak her paw in warm water (you can use a little epsom salts if you have it) to loosen the scab, then you can gently clean it with a warm wet washcloth. If you find that there is bleeding, then apply gently pressure for 15 minutes. Don't apply any topical medications as Luna will just lick them off. If the bleeding continues, or of the paw swells, or if there is a creamy or foul discharge, then she may need to go to the vet for examination and antibiotics.
