My spayed kitten was active. When should I worry about her incision?

I would keep an eye on Mayla's incision for now. If the swelling increases or you see more blood, then yes take her into the vet. I would also put the cone back on her. It seems to help keep her less active, which is vital for her healing. Best of luck.

That could be some bruising or irritation The incision itself appears to still be intact though. As long as Rosey is behaving normally, you can likely wait until tomorrow to have her rechecked by your veterinarian. Keep the e-collar (cone) in place and restrict her activity as much as possible. If she develops bruising anywhere else or becomes lethargic, then a visit to the ER would be recommended.

Thank you for submitting your question regarding Artemis. Most of the time, stitches are removed at 10-14 days post-surgery. By this point, she will be completely healed. The goal is no running, jumping or playing until this time. This is difficult with young kittens however. So do your best to limit her activities. It is fine if she sleeps with you at night if this is what she usually does. I would keep the bedroom door closed so that if she jumps off the bed, she is at least confined to the room. The surgery can make her slightly more prone to weight gain so watch her calorie intake. This is a greater problem in adult cats though. The surgery should not cause any behavioral changes. It does not appear wide open, is not red and is not bleeding or draining. It looks good for 6 days post op. Monitor for redness,swelling, discharge, bleeding or for dehiscence (opening). Monitor also for lethargy, loss of appetite or fever. These are all symptoms that should be addressed by your veterinarian.

I agree with you, it does look like Zara's incision is opening a bit but the rest of it looks great. I do think this is something that needs to be seen by your vet to be safe, but it does not need an emergency visit. You can wait until Monday to have her seen. If the incision opens wider, she starts bleeding from the incision, you notice the area becoming red, swollen, or warm to the touch, or you notice internal tissue coming out of the incision, then that is an emergency and I would rush her into a vet right away. I'm not sure if she has an Ecollar or not, but if she does, keep it on her to keep her from licking at the incision. If you don't have one, I can put a link below on how to make one at home.
