Why isn't my newly adopted shy cat meowing in his new home?

Sometimes, it does take time for cats to feel completely comfortable and normal with their surroundings to start purring. Some cats just don't purr like other cats do though. Oh my, Moxie is so handsome! Some cats are simply quieter than others, and it could simply be in his nature not to meow. Just like humans, cats have different personalities, and he could be more of an introvert who doesn't have much to say. If he has always been this way, then it's not something to worry about at all. Poor Meep! It sounds like he's very nervous, and still adjusting to his new environment. Moving to a new home is very stressful for cats, so this is not unexpected. It's likely that he hasn't had a bowel movement because he hasn't been eating well - if nothing is going in, there won't be anything to come out :) This problem should resolve itself within the next couple of days now that he is eating. Unless you have seen him straining in the litter box, this should not be any cause for concern. It's also very normal for cats not to drink much water - they are adapted for living in very dry areas. If he is eating wet food, he may not drink any water at all. Since it sounds like he's starting to settle in and things are improving, I would suggest giving Meep more time to get used to things. Make sure that he has his own room with his food and water bowls, litter box, and toys and hiding spaces so that he feels safe. He will start to venture out into the rest of the house as he gets more comfortable. You can also try using Feliway pheromone diffusers in his room and around the house to help reduce his stress and make him more comfortable.

Some kittens are more shy than others. Give him time. Pet him and talk to him, eventually he will be tamer and interact. Imagine he is in a new place, with new smells, people without his mommy. 2 months of age is still very young to be taken from the mother, so he probably feels very lonely and sad after his mommy.

Midnight is absolutely beautiful! It could be that she is suffering from laryngitis, which is an inflammation of the mucous membranes of the larynx. Signs of laryngitis include hoarseness and/or loss of voice. It could also be that she's just a quiet cat who doesn't meow. I'd have her checked out by a vet this week just to be sure everything is ok. I hope this helps, and enjoy your new kitten!

This can be normal behavior. Dogs can take about 2 weeks to get used to things while cats can take a bit longer. Give him attention, play with him and keep things out that are his. He may stay mellow, he may not but it is normal for them to have a behavioral change temporarily and sometimes permanent with a move. Cats have all different 'Meows" just like humans. some are loud and some make the motions with their mouths but no sounds come out. As long as this is how Enzou has always been and assuming that he is healthy, this is not a concern. If this is a new development or if he is sick, have him examined by the veterinarian.
