Why is my short-haired cat shedding so much? How to stop it?

Pet's info: Cat | Siamese | Female | spayed | 1 year old | 6 lbs

My lynx point siamese kitty sheds like crazy, no matter what I seem to do. I have heard brushing everyday helps but i have been doing that for several weeks, at least 10 to 20 min a day and it hasn't seemed to lessen the shedding at all. I cant even pet her without getting handfuls of fur. I understand cats shed of course but she is short haired and the shedding is 100 times worse than my other 4 cats. Is there anything I can do to minimize it ?

Some cats do shed more than others, but if you feel it is extreme compared to your other cats you may want to have your veterinarian do a thorough examination of her skin to make sure she doesn't have evidence of a dermatologic disease that could be causing excessive shedding. Shedding has also been linked to stress. If her skin seems normal and she is otherwise healthy it may simply be normal for her to be shedding like this - make sure she's on a high quality diet, brush twice daily, and consider bathing her every couple of weeks if you think she'll tolerate it.

Shedding is a normal process. So many people are so worried about shedding and I don't really understand why. Unless there are bald spots where the hair used to be I would not be worried. Just brush him daily as you have been and only be concerned if you are seeing bald patches.

You can also start him on a coat supplement like fish oil that may help.

Some cats do not readily shed their hair and need regular combing to remove the dead hair. This is important, as dead hair causes mats, causes hairballs and also itches terribly. I suggest you comb her every day. She will thank you !
On the other hand, if your cat does not readily shed, you do not have a big problem with lots of cat hair flying about in your house.

Unfortunately many cats do shed all the time! If he is having areas of hair loss/thinning then this would be concerning and would warrant a trip to the vet. If not, you can try a fatty acid supplement as this can sometimes improve coat quality such as Welactin feline.

Why is my Snowshoe cat shedding excessively? Is it normal for the breed?

Yes, this is normal but there is not really much you can do but daily brushing. All those "low shedding" products are a waste of money in my opinion. The only thing I can think of that may help is putting her on a salmon oil supplement. Both cats can take it. My cat is shedding a lot of hair. What's causing it and how to help?

This could be due to an allergic reaction. first of all make sure you de-flea Chibi regularly every month with a high quality spot on (ex. Advantage) as fleas are by far the most common reason for these reactions. If the fleas are not the problem, it could be an allergic reaction to food or an environmental factor. this is more complicated to treat and will sometimes require medications such as Steroids, anti histamines or cyclosporin in order to stop the allergy.

My cat is shedding way too much. Is it normal or a health concern?

Excess shedding can be a result of changes in the season so it is possible it is associated with weather warming up, but we can also see excessive shedding with other problems such as allergies. I would recommend having your vet examine Kilo to check for any underlying problems. In the meantime you could start a supplement good for skin such as a fatty acid supplement like Welactin which can be found online.

Excessive shedding to the point where the cost is thin or there is hair loss would not be normal.
