My senior cat with kidney issues fell. Is her kidney injured?

I'm sorry Shadow is limping! No, it's not likely the vet injured her during the first visit. When we do a lameness exam, yes we do manipulate the legs but not enough to cause injury. If she does have spinal issues, it does make sense that she will show varying degrees of limping at times. I'd recommend having x-rays done on her spine to see if she is suffering from spinal problems. Unfortunately, kidney failure is very common in senior cats. It can be managed symptomatically, but it cannot be cured.

Well that wasn't good that Isabella jumped that height! Given that she meowed and jumped on the bed, not limping or crying in pain, I would suspect she was not injured from that jump. If she was injured, she would be limping, crying in pain, and would be lethargic. I suspect she is ok, but hopefully she doesn't do that again!

I'm sorry to hear that this is going on with Virtue. My biggest concern would be that he has a developed a blood clot that has disturbed the blood flow to the back legs. This is unfortunately one of the common side effects of kidney disease and hypertension. I would recommend taking Virtue in to see your vet for a recheck as soon as possible. They will need to check his kidney values and see if they have worsened, check a blood pressure and may recommend starting Virtue on additional medication, such as aspirin, to help with the clots. I would recommend Brownie see a veterinarian today to be sure she hasn't sustained any injuries that are not directly obvious, such as a head injury, just to be on the safe side. Sometimes injuries may not be noticed at first after a traumatic event such as a fall from a window, even if they land on their feet, so I would recommend Brownie get looked at by a veterinarian today if possible. Kidney disease is definitely a possible cause of back pain and an increase in drinking. It can also make her feel bad and less active. I recommend taking her to the vet sometime soon, because some causes of kidney disease like infections and stones can be successfully treated and further damage to the kidneys can be prevented. If the lameness has persisted for 3 weeks and you notice that there is a difference in the shape of the shoulder area and leg position, I fear that the injury could be more serious than a sprain. Muscle injuries normally recover in 4-5 days of rest and antinflammatories. I would recommend to have him reassessed, there is a medication that can be given at home prior to the visit to help with the stress, I would ask your vet. Hope this helps !
