What can I use to sedate my semi-feral cat to remove her flea collar?

Fleas are never a fun surprise! Indoor cats can acquire fleas if they come inside on your clothing, through open windows, or on other pets in the household. Even though you have removed all of the adult fleas on Daisy, those adults have likely already laid eggs that will be impossible to remove. Flea collars (with the exception of the Seresto collar) tend to be very ineffective. It is possible that the collar may be affecting her negatively. Since Daisy has been relatively lethargic since you put the collar on, consider taking the collar off and using a high quality flea preventative medication, such as Advantage, Bravecto, or Revolution. Be sure to use one of these preventatives regularly for at least the next few months to break the fleas' life cycle, but preferably year-round. Cats can acquire tapeworms by eating fleas infected with tapeworms, so it may be worth taking a stool sample to Daisy's vet. If Daisy remains lethargic, stops eating and drinking, or develops any vomiting or diarrhea, she will certainly need to go to her vet for further evaluation. I hope that all goes well!

I would recommend giving a whole tablet to Carolina (12.5mg) and it is best to give this when Carolina is calm and relaxed. Sometimes it is best to set a 'trap' of sorts. If you get a large dog kennel, and put food inside this with the calmivet in the food, then you can close the door when she goes in to eat. There are risks with this pill, however the risks are small and the risk of her not being spayed are much higher than the risks of the pill. Side effects include severe sedation as well as low blood pressure. If you are monitoring her after she gets the tablet, you will notice she will be very sedate and you can bring her to the vet at that point where they can monitor her blood pressure. lHello, thank you for using PetCoach. There are are oral flea pills available, however, you also cannot take back an oral pill once you give it...... A 19 year old cat may have an underlying kidney or liver problem (actually this is very likely) that is making her more sensitive to these medications. If she has not been to the vet recently she should be examined and have some blood testing run. If you continue to try things and her organs are not functioning properly you may really put her over the edge. Luckily she recovered after the Seresto Collar incident. I suggest you: 1. Treat the environment (ie: the house) as the fleas will be constantly hatching and continuing the problem. I strongly recommend Knockout Spray ES. ALL animals in the house much be on some type of flea prevention as well or the fleas will continue to thrive. 3. To treat her specifically, without using the traditional flea medications, you can use this waterless mousse - it is only a temporary fix though. No real lasting effects like the topical/oral treatments so depending on the severity of the infestation, you may have to use it every day or every couple days. Flea collars can cause reactions in cats, as they are exquisitely sensitive to flea medication. Given that Blue has wounds, I think an oral flea treatment would be best for her. I recommend Bravecto. You can get it from the vet. Keep in mind that fleas live in the environment, not on the animal, so you will have to treat the home as well. Wash their bedding in hot soapy water, and vacuum the furniture and carpet surfaces. You can use a spray to kill fleas in the house, such as Indorex, or a flea bomb would work well to kill the fleas in the home. Best of luck, I hope this helps!

Hello. Unfortunately, there are no safe and effective medications that you can put in food to tranquilizer a cat. Any safe products must be obtained from a veterinarian as they are prescription. Even these are not reliable because they take hours to take effect and the cat has usually wandered off by then. Your safest option is to purchase a humane trap and try to bait her with some good smelling food. These traps can be purchased as stores like tractor supply. Your local animal control may also loan them out so it’s worth checking with them . Good luck.

No, there is no safe way to make or sedate feral cats outside of a veterinary clinic setting. Humane traps are available which can catch cats which go in for food and can be used to transport them for neutering, such as with trap neuter and release programs

Hello. I am sorry but legally we are not allowed to prescribe or recommend a medication for an animal that we have not directly examined. You can contact your veterinarian and ask them about providing you with a prescription. If your cat has not visited a veterinarian in a long time, you will have to have her examined and brought up to date on vaccinations including FDVRCP and Rabies before any grooming facility will accept her for an appointment. Please contact your regular veterinarian for the medication you need and it is likely that even they will need a current physical exam to prescribe something.
