Why does my overweight Siamese cat wheeze after drinking water?

The weight gain is somewhat of a vague sign, but I am worried when I hear of a cat "wheezing", as it suggests feline asthma, which is a fairly common malady and often presents itself as you are describing. I would consider this to be a fairly urgent matter and would get her into the vet for a thorough physical exam and chest x-rays as soon as possible; asthma can cause serious breathing compromise if not diagnosed and treated.

For weight loss it will be helpful to completely eliminate the dry food and feed only canned food. Gradually reducing the overall amount of food you give will help and slowly trying to encourage Bagheera to play a bit more may also help. There are also prescription canned foods available for weight loss like Hill's Metabolic. I agree that it sounds like Bagheera may be exhibiting signs of asthma. X-rays would be needed to confirm that there are no other issues. I would bring him to your veterinarian for X-rays and then medication or an inhaler can be started if asthma is suspected. Reducing Bagheera's exposure to things that may irritate the airway is also important so be mindful not to smoke in the household, don't use perfumes or cleaning solution with heavy odors and avoid dusty litter types. I'd be concerned that Sock may have feline asthma. It would be worth a trip to the veterinarian to have X-rays done again on Sock to look for asthmatic changes. Asthma in cats is fairly common and can be treated with both inhalant medication and oral medications. An Aerokat inhaler can be ordered to help administer inhalant medications if necessary. Your veterinarian can also ensure that Sock is not experiencing another upper respiratory infection. She could have an infection or asthma causing the cough and wheeze so she should be examined by a vet. Your vet can take an x-ray to evaluate her heart and lungs and then prescribe medications to treat. She may need an antibiotic, anti-inflammatory, and/or a bronchodilator to help with the cough and wheeze. Your vet can also check her teeth to make sure she doesn't have a dental problem.

Poor Boo. Yes it could be he has allergies or asthma, but it could also be a respiratory infection or something more serious like heart disease. Heart disease can be very common in senior cats. Coughing and wheezing in a younger cat most commonly occurs as a result of asthma, but could also be related to underlying allergies, masses in the chest, or heart disease (although cats with heart disease do not commonly cough).
