My overweight cat is tilting. Is her weight affecting her loafing?

She is most definitely overweight (fat pad can be clearly seen in front of the back legs / below the abdomen). If she has any additional clinical signs I would recommend a blood test to help determine if the obesity is triggered by any medical condition or even if it has caused any problems such as liver issues. I strongly recommend you start a weight management programme such as hills metabolic or royal canin satiety to help reduce the weight (and with it risks of obesity, joint and inflammatory conditions linked with excess weight)

If he has been gaining weight, you could consider a diet for weight loss such as the hills science diet metabolic weight loss management diet which works great for weight loss. If this is new behavior it is possible that this is a sign of pain. Being overweight can lead to problems like arthritis, but while I can tell from your pictures that Ali is beautiful I'm not sure if he seems overweight. I'd recommend making an appointment with your veterinarian to bring up your concerns. From an exam your veterinarian should be able to let you know whether or not Ali would benefit from weight loss and may be able to determine if he seems painful as well.

Hi, thanks for using PetCoach! Timmy is super cute! The extra hang on the belly of cats is normal and we are not sure why it forms. I have had cats with perfect body condition still have the skin hang. Timmy doesn't appear too overweight. I've attached a body condition chart. I swear it happens to most cats after they are spayed or neutered. Even lean cats have a little bit. But yes it can be a sign of being overweight. Based on your photo, maybe Luka is a little overweight. But even having him lose weight won't change the skin that hangs! Just poke it for fun!

It is concerning that Felix is almost 20lbs. He definitely needs to lose weight. You can start by limiting the amount of food being offered and switching him to a weight loss food gradually. Another thing is to keep him active. A laser pointer is a great way to keep cats active. Heavy cats are prone to different diseases. One big one is diabetes. Hi and thank you for posting your questions in Pet Coach! I'd be glad to help you. Whiskey is simply beautiful :-) 1. Flat faced cats can snore due to the confirmation of their face. They have a shorter nasal passage than other cats. This shortness of their muzzle and palate causes the necessary obstruction that makes the sound. I have a Persian with an extremely flat face, and he snores when he sleeps. This can be normal, but at the same time, could be caused by a partial obstruction in the upper nasal passageway. If you notice this loud breathing when she is awake, have her checked out by a vet. 2. Again, the flatter face commonly leads to excess tear discharge. My Persian also has these problems, and I clean his face daily. I recommend doing the same with Whiskey. If you notice the discharge increases, it becomes green or yellow, and/or her eyes become red and watery, these can be signs of an eye infection and I would have her checked out by a vet. 3. Being overweight can contribute to her snoring and make it worse, but due to her face structure, she likely will still snore even when she has lost weight. It just may not be as bad with the weight off. Begging can be very annoying, so I recommend feeding her a couple of times a day. Divide her daily food allotment into two to three equal meals, and space the feedings out throughout the day. You can also put her on a weight control diet which is higher in fiber and would help her feel full longer. There are weight control diets that can be prescribed by the vet, so make an appointment to discuss using one with her. I'd also recommend having a blood test and urinalysis done as well just to rule out a medical cause for her being so hungry. Diseases like diabetes and hyperthyroidism can lead to an increased appetite, so it's good to rule those out. I hope this helps! Enjoy your gorgeous girl!
