My male kitten is peeing outside the box. Is it a UTI? What to do?

Hello. In your post, you indicated that your cannot cannot pee. This is a life threatening emergency and he should be taken to the closest hospital or emergency clinic. If he has an obstruction, this needs to be taken care of immediately. In addition to it being very painful, it causes kidney failure and he can die if this is not corrected immediately. His urine should be looked at microscopically to determine if he has an infection or crystals or possibly a small stone. He will require a catheterization while sedated to relieve the blockage. He will probably need fluids and may require hospitalization. While the antibiotics you have listed are all potentially good for a uti, we are legally not permitted to prescribe or recommend a dose without an examination. Male cats can develop a urinary obstruction, which is an emergency condition that needs to be evaluated right away, as it can be fatal. Otherwise, cats can develop bladder crystals, a urinary tract infection, or cystitis (an inflammation of the bladder). If there is a chance Vito has a urinary obstruction, I would have him seen immediately. Good luck!

If she eats canned food, add more water to the food, or if she doesn't usually eat wet food you may want to start switching her to a wet food diet. Be sure to check with her veterinarian if she should be on a prescription diet for urinary issues before making any long term food changes. Do not give her any pain medications at home or any antibiotics you may have access too. Many human medications are toxic to cats. Hello! I would recommend keeping his litter completely clean so you can monitor his urine output. A blocked cat will continue to return to the litter box, strain unproductively or only pass small amounts of urine that may be bloody, and often be vocalizing. If you notice any of these signs, he needs to be taken to a vet immediately to be assessed for possible blockage. Feeding wet food, fountains, and dripping sinks and good ways to encourage cats to drink more water. Urinary tract infections in cats are fairly uncommon. Usually the urinary disease is a result of a production of crystals or stones or a sterile inflammatory bladder disease. If he is urinating frequently, I would suspect he has a UTI. I would take him into the vet to confirm he has a UTI, and the vet can prescribe antibiotics to treat it.

The most common cause for urinary tract problems in cats are feline interstitial cystitis, crystals in the urine and bladder stones. We can not diagnose diseases over the internet or provide drug doses with out actually examining the patient as it is against the law. Since it is a very small chance he needs antibiotics my advice is to take a urine sample and Harry for an exam at the Vet. You can repost with his symptoms and we can try to provide advice. Yes, I would bring Pigeon into the vet. This can be a sign of a UTI or bladder stones, and the only way to know for sure is to have her checked out by a vet, do bloodwork, and a urinalysis. Because she was using the box previously and now isn't, that can also be another sign something is wrong. Give her vet a call now to make her an appointment. Until she sees the vet, feed her wet/canned food, add water to it, and make sure she drinks a lot of water to help flush the bladder. I hope this helps!
