My kitten has green eye boogers and third eyelid. Is it serious?

Cats often are infected with herpesvirus as kittens, and it can come and go throughout their lives, but often it flares up during times of stress (such as adding a new kitten). They can also get secondary bacterial infections in the eyes and upper respiratory infections. If it's not improving on its own or he starts squinting or pawing at his eye he may need antibiotic drops from your vet.

This can indicate a few things such as something called Horner's Syndrome, Haws Syndrome, or some type of injury to the eye or eyelids. It's not likely Horner's because that is usually one eye and is a neurological disorder of the eye and facial muscles. Haw's syndrome is more likely since it's both eyes. This is an odd syndrome of elevated third eyelids and often times diarrhea. Some people suspect tapeworm infestation or a viral cause for this syndrome. It's usually not treated and is most times self limiting and will resolve. Eye and eyelid injuries are often again only one eye but could less commonly be both eyes. If you don't notice any discharge, rubbing of the eyes, redness of the eyes, or pain I would just advise monitoring the situation. I did notice that her left third eyelid and eye looked redder than the right which could mean that she does have something going on with that eye, such as conjunctivitis. I would advise seeing your veterinarian and let them evaluate her. They can take a detailed history and perform a thorough examination. Once those are done, your vet can advise you on a diagnostic/treatment plan based on their clinical findings. Possible tests include a corneal stain, conjunctival scrape, etc. Conjunctivitis is commonly viral and/or bacterial in nature in young kittens. Also, your vet can advise you on a good preventive health care program for Scarlett. Good question. I hope this just resolves on it's own like most cases do.

Hello, poor Freyja. She may be having a recurrent upper respiratory infection. Most common URI are by viruses (herpes and calicivirus) and then there's chlamydia which is bacterial. In addition to the antibiotics she may need to have antivirals such as oral lysine. I would have her rechecked by your veterinarian to rule out the possibility of a recurrent infection. Panther likely has a viral infection or upper respiratory infection and now a secondary bacterial infection in his eyes. The only thing I can tell you to do at home is to gently warm compress his eyes. He sadly needs to see a Vet for antibiotic ointment in the eye. Due to the sensitivity of the eye, a special ointment or drop that is safe for the eye needs to be used. Cats are especially sensitive to certain eye medications. It shouldn't be too expensive to have him seen by a Vet. Also a lot of SPCAs have a low cost Veterinary clinic. I wish you the best and a speedy recovery for Panther!

Hello. Most of these kitties have a viral infection of the eyes often complicated with a secondary bacterial component. Other than keeping the eyes clear by gently cleaning with warm water a few times a day, there is not much more you can do except having the kitten seen & treated by a veterinarian. Oh my goodness, Piggy is so cute! From the picture, it doesn't appear she has an eye infection, and the boogers you are seeing in the morning could just be build up from sleep the night before. Without seeing her in person, I can't say for certain, so I would make a vet appointment for her this week. She should be examined by a vet anyway since she was abandoned to make sure she is overall healthy. I hope this helps.

This is usually treated with antibiotic eye drops and cats usually respond well to therapy. I recommend that you have Bubbles evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment.
