Kitten fever after rabies shot? What are her next vaccine needs?

Hi there, if Gabriella is an adult cat, she world need the rabies and fvrcp combo given once, then boostered after 12mths. That second dose would likely be good for 3yrs. If she is a kitten, we recommend boosting the fvrcp every 2-4wks until she's 16wks old. The risk for felv increases if she's ever in contact with other cats eg. If neighbors cats come into your yard, or she goes to a boarding facility. If that is the case, she should get the felv (leukemia) vaccine. After the initial 2 doses, felv should be boosted annually. If she is a warrior kitten, then Artemis is great name for her! Feline core vaccines include FVRCP (feline distemper combo) and a rabies vaccine. At four months of age, she will need two rounds of each vaccine given four weeks apart. You should do the FVRCP vaccine first, then two weeks later the rabies vaccine. The second FVRCP vaccine should be done four weeks after the first one, and the same goes for the rabies vaccine. It's not recommended to give the FVRCP and rabies together at the same time. She needs a round of vaccines (usually feline distemper, possible feline leukemia and FIV as well) every 3-4 weeks started at 6-8 weeks of age and continuing until she's had 2 rounds AFTER 12 weeks old. So the number can vary depending on how you space them and when you start. For rabies, side effects are very rare (less than other vaccines, where side effects are already low). For any vaccine, side effects to watch out for are vomiting, extreme lethargy, and significant facial swelling. Finally, she should be spayed around 5-6 months of age.

To be considered fully vaccinated, she will need at least a rabies vaccine, FRCP vaccine, and I recommend an FeLV vaccine for outdoor cats. These are all potentially deadly or extremely common viruses that cats can get from each other or wildlife such as raccoons. Although your cat is indoor only, there is a risk that she may run away and be exposed. I recommend having her microchipped and wear a collar in case this happens so that the two of you can be reunited. She should also be on monthly flea control, even f she is only indoors to prevent flea infestations.

If Khali is 4 months old and this was her first round of vaccines, she will need boosters for the distemper and leukemia in 2-4 weeks. The rabies does not need a booster.
