My son is allergic to our cat. How do I find her a new home?

If you can't keep her and don't know where the owners are (or they abandoned her) it is best to bring her to a local animal shelter for care. They can check for any microchips there (in case she was left behind on accident), provide any medical care as needed, and get her eating and drinking and healthy enough for adoption or to be returned to her original owners.

Allergies definitely stink. I know a lot of veterinarians out there that end up developing allergies to dogs or cats throughout their careers and it makes their lives very difficult. In terms of things that you can do, the first thing I would recommend is speaking with your allergist or dermatologist about possibly getting allergy shots. Some people have a lot of luck with these. It makes owning a cat not only possible, but enjoyable. Secondly, just like there are hypoallergenic dogs, there are hypoallergenic cats. Brushing more often (in an area that's easy to clean up any hair that flies away) can certainly help. Keeping carpets and furniture clean can also help reduce pet dander and allergens. If you do a search online, there are also special shampoo sprays that can be used on cats to help reduce excess dander without harm to your cat. Having an antihistamine on hand for your friend to use, and keeping bedding/cat towers/etc out of common areas your friend will frequent may also help.

Besides vacuuming, cleaning up, and using a HEPA air filter, I am not aware of anything you can do to help with her allergies. You should keep the cat separated from her when she comes over, too. If she is seriously allergic to cats then she should talk to her doctor about what she could take prior to visiting to help control her allergies.

Cats aren't dangerous to humans, but humans can be allergic to them. Because I'm not a human doctor, I diagnose if you are allergic to your cats or not, so make an appointment with your doctor. Your girlfriend could consider consulting an allergist to discuss allergy testing and desensitization injections (allergy shots). I'm not a human physician, so I am not aware of any other OTC meds that could help her. Consider bathing Fae occasionally, brushing her regularly, and washing her bedding regularly to try to decrease the amount of dander she leaves in the environment.

This is a tough situation. Regarding the allergies, you need to speak with your regular human doctor. Sometimes medications may help. Don't feel bad putting him in a room when you have tasks that need to get done. He won't be mad if he is put in the bath room for an hour. This behavior may calm down as well as he continues to adjust to his new home. If you don't want to give him back to the shelter, you may ask friends/family about adopting him. I hope this helps.
