My diabetic cat is aggressive, warm, and moody. Is she sick?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Shorthair | Female | spayed | 11 years and 11 months old | 12 lbs

My diabetic cat has warm feeling ears, and she seems to be in a bad mood. She has shown signs of aggression towards another cat in the household, which is very atypical of her in the nearly 12 years I've had her. What could be wrong?

It is quite possible she has developed a fever, most likely from an underlying infection such as a urinary tract infection which are very common in diabetics. I recommend a full health check as soon as possible; taking a fresh urine sample with you wold be very helpful

Diabetes in cats typically presents with a dry hair coat, weight loss, an increase in drinking and an increase in urination. More advanced untreated diabetics can also start vomiting and stop eating. If you are concerned about Pooky, I would recommend she be evaluated by her regular veterinarian to try to determine any symptoms you might be seeing. Diabetes can be disgnosed with a blood and urine test. Good luck!
