How can I determine my stray cat's age, gender, and possible breed?

Hi there. It would help us to see a picture of your cat, but to be semi accurate we would need to do a pretty good dental exam (examine the teeth). This is really best done in person as it is hard to photograph the mouth of a cat accurately.

She's cute. She looks to be around 4-5 months of age, but you should weigh her. Her weight in months +1 is usually how we guess kittens ages. You should look at this photo to determine if this kitten is male or female. The general rule of thumb is about 1 month of age for each pound of weight. This is not accurate in all cases though. Baby teeth, incisors and canines (fangs), erupt at about 3-4 weeks of age. If Lucy has all her baby teeth, she is at least 6 weeks old. You should be able to determine sex right away. This is how: Lift the tail. Right under the tail is the anus. Below that is another opening which is round in males and a vertical slit in females. Also, the distance between the anus and genital opening is greater in males. A physical exam by your vet can confirm gender. You can also post a clear picture of the back end in a new question and we can let you know.

Beautiful cat! Unfortunately there is no way for me to give you any sort of idea on age or health just by looking at the photos. You would need a vet to do an exam in person. All I can say is that she definitely appears to be an adult (over 1 year of age). As for breeding, it is recommended that females not have a litter until at least 18 months of age although they technically can become pregnant and have a litter as young as 7-8 months old. They can continue to be become pregnant and have litters well into their early teens. Not recommended to do so but it is possible. Whether or not you should 'go for it" is entirely up to you. Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Fleki is very cute! He appears to be a normal Domestic Short haired cat. They can come in many colors and patterns. It is hard to be accurate about his age with out doing a physical exam and seeing his teeth. But I would guess around 1 1/2 to 2 years of age. Have a great weekend!

This poor cat looks like a mess! How lovely of you to take her in. She looks like a domestic short hair to me from your pictures. Without seeing her in person, there is no way I can say if she is pregnant or not. She definitely needs a vet visit asap. She needs to be cleaned up, have a health check done, and the vet can determine if she is pregnant or not. Please take her into a vet now.

He is adorable! From the photos, I would guess his age to be about ten to twelve weeks of age. I recommend getting him an appointment to see your vet as soon as possible for a wellness check and to get him started on a vaccination schedule, deworming and flea and heartworm prevention. Your vet will be better able to give you a closer estimate of his age based on his teeth.
