My cat has yellow eye discharge for 3 days. Is it serious if she's normal?

My cat has a discharge in her right eye. It is yellow/orange in color, and has been ongoing for about 3 days. I clean the drainage with tissues dampened in water occasionally, I'm worried it hasn't resolved yet, although I haven't noticed any other symptoms, she is otherwise behaving her normal self.

It appears it is infected and seems a little red and inflamed. This may be some conjunctivitis from a virus or an allergy. You may need to see your vet about prescription eye drops with an antibiotics

It's very likely to be an eye infection as it is very common in kittens, you need to take him to the vet ASAP as he will need a prescription antibiotic eye ointment and possibly a course of oral antibiotics too. failure to treat this type of eye infection usually leads to blindness in the affected eye.

Thank you for submitting your question regarding Kitty. Yes, I recommend that he sees a veterinarian. Yellow discharge can indicate an eye infection. If so, he will likely need an eye ointment or drop to treat it. I hope this information helps!

It sounds like your kitty may have an eye infection, which could not be related to the antibiotics. It could also be due to trauma to the eye. Any eye condition is considered an emergency, as leaving them treated can lead to vision loss. I would take your kitty into a vet now. The vet can diagnose what is causing these changes in her eye, and how best to treat it.

I'm sorry to hear that Dr Bigotes seems to have an infection. The yellow discharge from the eyes is very common with conjunctivitis and/or ulcers and does require an eye antibiotic ointment to clear it up. Frequently cats will have a viral infection that can cause this problem as well. I would recommend using a warm compress for 5 minutes a few times a day on her eyes to help remove some of the discharge. You also can gently flush the eyes with sterile saline to remove some of the discharge to see if that makes her more comfortable. I am also very concerned that she is not eating. She may have something else going on that is causing her to loose her appetite, like an upper respiratory infection. You can try heating the food to make it smell more pungent to see if that helps her to smell it better and hopefully eat. Ultimately, I do think you need to take Dr Bigotes into your vet when you are able because she likely needs to have antibiotic ointment for her eyes and to look for an ulceration that may need further treatment. She also may need further treatment for the inappetence.

My cat has green/yellow eye discharge. Can I clean it or need a vet?

Many times discharge from the eye in a cat can signal the start of an upper respiratory infection. Other possible causes are a blocked tear duct, allergy, or scratch on the cornea. Because anytime the eye is involved I'm very cautious I'd recommend seeing veterinarian especially if the issue does not resolve by tomorrow. A veterinarian can examine the eye to ensure there is no infection or signs of an upper respiratory infection starting. They can also check to make sure no corneal scratches are present as these can be painful and require antibiotic ointment to treat. Anytime the eye is having an issue it's always best to err on the side of caution and have it checked out. My 7-week-old kitten has eye discharge. Is it serious or an infection?

Any eye problem is considered serious because leaving it untreated can lead to vision loss. It's possible that Shy does have a scratch on his eye, that can often only be visualized with a fluorescein stain. It could also be that he has an eye infection. I recommend taking him into the vet first thing in the morning. The vet can diagnose what is causing the discharge from his eye, and can prescribe a treatment for it. It looks as Trinity is suffering from an eye infection, it is relatively common in cats. you will need to take her to the vet the first chance you get, the vet will check the eyes, if it is indeed a simple eye infection your vet will prescribe an antibiotic eye drops that will probably solve the problem in no time.
