My cat is vomiting, constipated, and has rice worms. What should I do?

Yes, I would advise to get Phones dewormed. Rice shaped worms are usually tape worms BUT I have seen clients describe roundworms as rice shaped as well. I would advise a broad spectrum dewormer and a fecal exam. If he does have tapeworms, then that means he also has fleas. Fleas transmit the tapeworms. You veterinarian can prescribe the best flea medications and dewormer for your situation. If the diarrhea does not resolve after treatment, then there are many other things that can cause loose stool. I hoe this helps!

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Rice like worm segments indicate tapeworm. WormEze just gets round worms which Gracie likely has as well but doesn't get tapeworm. You will need to purchase droncit, cestex OR drontal plus to get rid of the tapeworm. Cats get tapeworm from fleas so check her well for a flea infestation. Hopefully once the worms are gone her anus will get better. Gracie will need to start her vaccinations in the next 1-2 weeks. I hope this helps and I wish you and Gracie the best!

If he is still vomiting then he needs to be examined by a vet for treatment. If he is constipated, he may need an enema and medication to help soften his stool. He might also need an anti-vomiting medication.

Likely she has had some loose stools, and it's normal to see a cat act like they are trying to poop but have nothing come out. It's not constipation, it's just she still has the urge to go but nothing comes out. It happens in humans as well who have diarrhea. Unfortunately I cannot recommend giving Pepcid or Miralax without seeing her in person, it's illegal. I can give you a home remedy to see if that helps. Feed her a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) in small amounts several times a day for a couple of days. Then slowly add back in his normal diet. If she vomits the bland diet, the diarrhea continues on the bland diet, stops drinking water, starts vomiting water, or becomes very lethargic, she will need to see a vet right away. Best of luck.

I would be more inclined to think that your kitty is obstipated (inability to defecate). As the pet gets backed up there is no where for the ingested food to go, so the cat vomits it back up. Also the stomach will be firm and distended with feces that collect in the colon. Cats that cannot poop for several days will also get full anal glands, this causes irritation of the bum and scooting. Your poor kitty needs to be take to the vet to likely have an enema placed to relieve the impacted feces right away. I would recommend taking kitty in to your local vet by tomorrow at the latest. I would caution against using over the counter enema's because most contain phosphate, and this component is toxic in cats. I would agree that intestinal parasites are still a possibility here, but obstipation would be my first concern. Your vet can easily distinguish which one is the cause of your cats current state by just feeling her belly and doing a rectal exam. I hope your kitty gets better soon!

I would make it a point to take Rron to the vet right away. These are concerning symptoms indeed. If he is constipated or even obstipated (unable to defecate) then they will need to place a rectal enema (sometimes under a mild sedative) to evacuate out his colon.

Poor girl. I would absolutely recommend taking Ariel to your vet for this. Constipation in cats can be managed with treatment if caught early, but if it goes on for a long period of time without treatment, it can lead to megacolon (permanent dilation of the colon) which will require stronger medications that have to be given continuously.
