My cat has a UTI. Can I give her Azo Urinary Tract Health?

Azo tablets have been show to potentially cause methemoglobulinemia in dogs and cats and should not be given. It also can cause a dry eye condition in dogs. I would recommend not giving this to Eve. There are pet formulated cranberry tablets that you can purchase from your veterinarian (if available) or through your local pet store.

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Harry! Less than 5% of male urinary tract issues are from bacterial UTI's. The most common cause for urinary tract problems in cats are feline interstitial cystitis, crystals in the urine and bladder stones. We can not diagnose diseases over the internet or provide drug doses with out actually examining the patient as it is against the law. Since it is a very small chance he needs antibiotics my advice is to take a urine sample and Harry for an exam at the Vet. You can repost with his symptoms and we can try to provide advice. If you are worried about a UTI in Jewel it is best to take her to a vet so they can look at the urine under the microscope and determine which antibiotic would be best and safest for her. Hello. It is unfortunately impossible for us to recommend using human medication without knowing there is a real problem with your pet. At best, you may be giving an unnecessary medication & at worse, you may be treating inappropriately & causing a simple infection to become much worse. If it truly is just a urinary tract infection and she is not obstructed and otherwise doing well then it should not be an issue waiting until tomorrow morning. If she seems too uncomfortable or becomes obstructed, she may need to see a veterinarian before then like tonight to at least start medications for pain and antibiotics. Best of luck!

One pill shouldn't alter the results, so that will be fine. AZP should not be given to dogs, it's not a medication that can be safely used in this species. The best way to prevent infections is to make sure Amelia drinks lots of water, and you take her out to urinate frequently. The longer she holds her bladder, the more chance bacteria has to build up in the bladder leading to infections.

If she eats canned food, add more water to the food, or if she doesn't usually eat wet food you may want to start switching her to a wet food diet. Be sure to check with her veterinarian if she should be on a prescription diet for urinary issues before making any long term food changes. Do not give her any pain medications at home or any antibiotics you may have access too. Many human medications are toxic to cats. The best thing to do is to get her to the veterinarian as soon as they can get you in. I hope she's feeling better soon.
