My cat's third eyelid is showing after an injury. Is it an emergency?

So it appears the third eyelid is showing, which means Oreo either has an eye infection or has injured her eye. Any eye problem is considered an emergency because leaving it untreated can lead to vision loss. I would take her into your closest vet now. Best of luck.

It looks like your kitty has a prolapsed third eye lid. This does not look like an emergency. It may be that she has worms (this sometimes causes prolapsed nictitating membranes/third eyelids). Should the eye start to ooze purulent discharge or get red or look like it is damage you should take her to a PetER. Otherwise you can wait until Tuesday, if the third eyelid does not retract by then.

It looks as though Nash’s third eyelid on his right eye is elevated. The third eyelid can raise for a variety of different conditions, including viral infection, eye inflammation, a corneal ulcer/abrasion, Horner’s syndrome, among many others. Particularly since eye problems can change and progress so rapidly, it’s important to have Nash examined by your vet. Until then, be sure to put an ecollar (cone) on Nash to prevent him from scratching or rubbing at this eye, as that will make matters worse. I hope that he’s on the mend soon!

If her third eyelid is up, it could be something more concerning such as a scratch on her cornea. If she is pawing at her eye, please put an e-collar on her to prevent her from causing significant damage to the eye but rubbing it. You can use an eye wash to rinse the eye (here is a great one for pets https://www.petco.com/shop/en/petcostore/product/vetericyn-plus-eye-wash-for-dogs. If its just allergies, this will usually help. Also, Benadryl can be safely given to cats and may help if its an allergy, however most cats HATE the taste, so giving it can be a challenge. Vomiting can be observed with conditions such as gastroenteritis, pancreatitis, dietary indiscretion, gastrointestinal foreign body ingestion and obstruction, among other possibilities. For this reason, I highly recommend that you have Google evaluated by a veterinarian for further assessment and treatment as soon as possible as I am afraid she is likely becoming dehydrated. They would be able to check for these possibilities and also check her hydration status and give her medications to make her feel better. Good luck!

What you are seeing is Zoe's third eyelid, which is a normal part of a cat's anatomy. What isn't normal, however, is it being out while her eye is open. Normally it comes out when her eye is closed, and if it's out while her eye is open, that signals a medical problem such as an eye infection. An eye infection would also keep her from opening her eye as normal. The eye is such a delicate and important structure that any problem with it should be considered an emergency. That's because leaving it untreated can lead to vision loss. I would have Zoe seen by a vet as soon as possible to have her eye examined and treated.

It is not a specific sign for one particular disease but it often means that a cat has fever, has breathing problems, has abdominal discomfort, muscle or joint pain. Please, take Lancelot to your local vets tomorrow for full clinical examination. Your vet may recommend a blood test or abdominal scan to find out what is going on. Good luck !
