My cat is tearing up the carrier. Can I give post-surgery meds now?

I took 2 mamas & 3 kittens to be fixed today. Dr gave meds for each 1 to shoot down their throats said i should do it tomorrow before I let them go. They are all in a carrier together. Im going to find homes for the kittens but I need to know if I can give the meds to the mama cats now bc they are going to tear the carrier up. I don't have a room I can put them in. They were someone's down the road who quit feeding them. Wouldn't take them to get fixed So I did. I don't want them to get hurt.

It sounds like you're juggling a lot of work with all those cats! However, if the vet who did the procedure said to start the medication tomorrow, I would recommend that you *not* give the medication tonight. It is very likely that the vet gave an injection of a similar medication already while the cats were at the hospital, that will stay in their system until tomorrow, and that's why the vet wanted the next dose given tomorrow. If you give it tonight, that could lead to an overdose of the medication in the cat's system. So, do your best to follow the instructions on the medication as directed. I hope this helps!

However, generally as a general rule you would just push it back and medicate when you get home and then change the time he receives those medications to match when it was given today. Good luck!

Hello, yes you can give the Meloxicam at 8 am, no problem. she is probably still shook up and in pain, her biting you is likely due to that but don't worry she will be back to her normal self soon enough (a few days).

Is my cat's slow recovery normal after surgery and many medications?

Sometimes it can take some time for cats to recover from anesthesia and administration of these medications together so that could be a reason why it has been taking him longer than expected to recover. If he is eating and otherwise doing well, it may be ok to monitor him for a bit longer. However, if he worsens or by tomorrow he has not improved, he should be evaluated by his veterinarian for reevaluation. Good luck and have a great day!

Should I feed my cat more after dental surgery if she's hungry?
Hi Laila, I did see your post!!! I'm so glad the dental surgery went well today. Given that the vet tech said not to give her a lot of food tonight, I would follow those instructions. It will be ok for tonight for her to have a little less, tomorrow you can give her the normal amount. Hope all is good :-)

My spayed cat got Metacam early post-surgery. Is it an emergency?
It is OK that you gave it 2 hours early but I personally don't recommend multiple days of Metacam administration in cats. I suggest you stop giving it at this point unless she seems painful. After a week she should not be.

Hello. You can definitely skip the 7 PM dose today & restart the schedule tomorrow morning, or if you think it will simplify things, just give the pill in the evenings from here on out. What to do when cat is agitated after surgery and meds don't work?
Acepromazine and diazepam at appropriate doses should be appropriate for post operative sedation and relaxation. However, neither of these drugs provide any pain control. I would consider adding an opioid-buprenorphine is my preferred opioid in cats- but since it is not available you may want to consider hydromorphine or fentanyl (in hospital) or tramadol (at home). NSAIDs are also an option but these have no sedative effect.
