My cat has tapeworms. Can I use dog dewormer to treat them safely?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | American Shorthair | Female | unspayed

Hi i have a cat, shes about 9 months old and i believe she has tapeworms because i heard tapeworms are small rice like. I got her a roundworm remover for dogs but they told me it worked on cats as well. Is it safe for her and do you know if that will work?

Never use a medication formulated for dogs only and not cats, it's NOT safe. I would not use this on Luna. Tapeworms require a medication called praziquantel to treat, which is prescription only medication. You will need to take her into a vet to get the medication, which comes in Drontal. Drontal is an excellent and safe deworming medication for cats. I hope this helps!
