My cat's face is swollen and getting bigger. What should I do?

Facial swelling in cats is usually related to abscesses, either from external wound (scratch, cat fight) or from dental diseases. Please, take Bro to your local vets to confirm the diagnosis and to start treatment for him.

A sudden swelling under the jaw could be an abscess. Typically these need to be seen by a vet; as they often need to be lanced/drained to get the pus and infection out; then started on antibiotics. Pain medication may be given as well. If he isn't eating, if he's acting lethargic or otherwise not feeling well (vomiting, diarrhea, any change in breathing) seek emergency care. If your vet's office is closed, they likely have a message with who to call or where to seek after hours care in the case of an emergency. Facial swelling can be caused by an allergic reaction to something such as an insect sting or spider bite, an abscess from an injury, or even an abscessed tooth (unlikely in such a young cat). I would encourage you to have him evaluated by your veterinarian as soon as possible. Depending on what the diagnosis is will determine what medications are recommended. Hi and thanks for your post this evening! Swelling of the face and drooling can be a sign of a severe dental infection. I would have Harry's seen by a veterinarian soon so he can get an oral exam done. If a dental infection is suspected, Harry may be dental surgery to remove a tooth or teeth. They may take dental x-rays if needed. I hope Harry is able to see a veterinarian soon! Best wishes to you and Harry.

Oh no, poor Ollie. The swollen face could be from an accident, getting into something toxic, a fight, or an allergic reaction. I cannot say what is causing his symptoms without seeing him in person, but I can say for sure he needs to see a vet now to diagnose what is causing it. Please take him into an ER vet clinic; if there isn't one in your area, there will be a vet on call for emergencies. Poor Mara! It could be she was injured while you were gone, she could be experiencing an allergic reaction, or she could have a dental problem. In the second picture, it looks like there is a cloudiness in her left eye. That has to be checked out by a vet if it hasn't already. Get her into a vet as soon as possible. Best of luck.

Hello, thank you for using PetCoach. It appears that Franco has a tooth root abscess which is causing the swelling in that location. He has the classic presentation for this problem.
