The black, hard stuff needs to come out. Warm oil and compresses can help soften it, then you can use a wash cloth or cotton ball to remove the hard material. It is important to get this out of the way so that medications can reach the bacteria underneath. It appears that Dexoryl contains both an antibiotic and an anti-inflammatory, and should be able to treat the infection. However, some bacteria can be particularly nasty and occasionally pets need oral or injectable antibiotics to get over it. Things that may cause Blacki to itch would be an ear infection, mites, or allergies. You should have Blacki evaluated by a veterinarian to rule out an underlying cause for this. In terms of the swollen ear it self, there are several ways to address this such as draining and bandaging vs surgery to suture the ear flat. She is a cutie! This could be from an insect/spider bite that has cause a local infection/abscess which is why is has started to swell. This could potentially be a cancerous mass that has caused an inflammatory reaction as well. Since it has recently become swollen, I would strongly recommend for your vet to take a look at it. Your vet will be able to aspirate the mass or swelling if needed. They can even take X-rays if needed if they are concerned about sinus or honey involvement. Terry needs to be examined by the veterinarian today. The most common reasons for a swelling like this are tooth root abscesses, skin abscess or an allergic reaction (which is the least common). Abscesses can be very serious and cause sepsis if not treated so I recommend to have him examined today for the correct diagnosis and treatment. Poor Beba! It could be she injured her ear, or she could be suffering from an ear infection causing her to scratch her ear a lot leading to the swelling.
