What to do when my cat's stud tail and chin problem won't heal?

Poor Toby! I am sure you feel awful and are concerned about Toby. I cannot tell from this photo the depth of the wound. Sometimes in cats we can get what is called "degloving" wounds where the bone actually becomes exposed. Either way, it looks like Toby needs veterinary care. The wound needs to be cleaned up and may need a bandage to be applied by the vet, and he may need some antibiotics and pain medication. If your veterinarian has diagnosed Toby with this condition, it can be treated with anti-anxiety/depressant medications and certain supplements such as L-theanine. It may take several weeks to see results of the medications but can be very beneficial for cases such as Toby's. Sometimes patients are kept on the medications for a year or more and then slowly weaned off. Amputation is generally not recommended unless there is a medical issue directly with the tail. Feline Hyperesthesia Syndrome is usually closely related to anxiety and obsessive compulsive disorder and may manifest in other ways (such as excessive licking or grooming behaviors) even if the tail was removed. Aw, what a handsome boy! I’m sorry the treatment didn’t give him relief. It may be that his anxiety is contributing to his [over grooming](https://www.petcoach.co/article/excessive-grooming-in-cats-what-it-means-and-how-to-help), so you might ask your vet about trying him on a medication such as [fluoxetine](https://www.petcoach.co/pet-medication/fluoxetine/). Hello! This is the type of thing that I think would warrant a trip to see your vet, especially if the areas look red, or sore, of if there is a discharge associated with the peeling skin. You could try gently washing the areas with warm water, to be sure it isn't just some sort of substance that has gotten stuck to his skin first, though! Your vet could also examine Toby, and talk about first vaccines, deworming etc. Best of luck!

A flea allergy often causes irritation at the tail base or top of the tail. It could be some other cause of inflammation as well, but I would recommend that you start her on a good monthly flea product if she's not already on something. Also, put an e-collar on her to prevent her from licking at it; and if its not improving within a few days, arrange for her to see a vet. I would recommend seeking another opinion in person. I would make sure the Ninja is on a good flea and tick prevention (even if indoors). I would have a veterinarian evaluate his skin underneath his hair to make sure there are no lesions. I would also recommend having a veterinarian check his anal glands. After this they can always biopsy the area. I would have them do a biopsy in that spot and then a normal spot on Ninja's skin. I have previously done this before on patients when people would want answers to why the hair is turning color and most of the time it comes back as normal, but without that biopsy I can't say that for sure in Ninja's case.
