My cat struggles to poop, not drinking. Is it FLUTD or constipation?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | American Shorthair | Female | unspayed | 1 year and 2 months old | 10.6 lbs

My cat is going to litter box, crouching to poop, and is unable to do so. He attempts to poop several times before actually succeeding. He poops once a day. He also hasn’t been drinking water for the past three days that I know of. Why could he be struggling to poop? I spoke to a vet at the ASPCA and she couldn’t give me an answer. He was blocked a few days ago and his bladder expressed. The vet at the ASPCA diagnosed him with Feline Lower Urinary Tract Disease a few days ago & gave me S/O food.

Some owners see a cat struggling in the litter box and they assume constipation but it is usually a urinary problem. With her having a recent problem with her urinary tract/bladder I would assume this is a continuation of the problem. I suggest you get a second opinion with another vet. This problem may be more than the ASPCA vet can handle.
