My cat has stress colitis and won't take liquid medicine. What to do?

Considering what you described, I would suggest to withhold food for the next 8-12 hours and then start feeding with a bland diet based on boiled chicken/white fish and rice in small portion every 6 hours for the following 48hours. Poor Shadow! It does sound like she's very uncomfortable during these bouts of illness :( Unfortunately, there isn't much you can do to comfort her when she's actively having a flare-up; the yowling is likely due to abdominal cramps, similar to what we experience when we have diarrhea. There's not much that relieves it other than going to the bathroom, and waiting it out. But since these flare-ups are so upsetting for her, it may be worth starting some kind of long-term treatment to try and prevent them, or at least make them less frequent and less severe. Steroids are indeed commonly used for this problem, and could be a good option for Shadow. If you would prefer to avoid medication for now, many cats with this problem respond well to a prescription GI diet designed for cats with colitis, and/or a daily probiotic like Forti-Flora to help keep things healthy in their gut. Your vet may also be willing to give you medication to keep on hand for when this happens, such as metronidazole or something similar. I would recommend talking with your vet about your concerns to see what the best option is to try and make Shadow more comfortable.

She has received a lot of medications and this can upset the normal bacterial balance in the bowel. I would feed boiled chicken or fish plus a probiotic and fiber supplement such as fortiflora exclusively for 7-10days to allow the bowel to rest and recuperate. Investigation for chronic inflammatory conditions may be required if persisting

Hi from Bangladesh! Don't worry, it may take a few more days to see improvement. You may also try a bland diet of boiled chicken, rice, and plain canned pumpkin (not the pie filling) to help firm up the stool. Using a probiotic for cats and dogs can help as well. Hope this helps!!

Please don't waste your money on those expensive grain free foods. They are not necessary to use except in extreme cases of an actual diagnosed grain allergy which is rare. Grain free diets are now linked to causing heart disease in dogs (we are not sure yet about cats). I recommend you discontinue use of that type of food. My suggestion would be to use a long term course of a probiotic called Fortiflora. Put one packet on his food every day for at least one month. This will help correct any imbalance in good vs bad intestinal bacteria. DO NOT use human probiotics or things like yogurt. Fortiflora is the best in my opinion and it is palatable so cats like to eat it.
